I purchased a Tkat Fork Brace for my XS650 a few weeks ago. This is my experience with it:
- The fork brace has greatly improved my handling, it is really noticeable. - It is of VERY high quality construction - It is lightweight yet clearly very strong - It looks far cooler than the forkbraces sold by the online XS dealers. - It took about 10 minutes to install and didn't require taking anything apart on my bike. I didn't need to remove any bolts or anything, just slide up the dustboots, install the fork brace, and slide them back down. - Tkat is a great guy to deal with, honest and helpful. If he starts making other products for the XS650, I'll probably purchase those too.
There was a discussion about fork braces quite a while back and although I can't find it, I recall that the Tkat brace is very well made and fits well. However,it may not be as efficient as the hooped type as it still allows some fork flexing?
Does anyone recall the discussion and the pros and cons of these braces? Based on what I had recalled, I was going to fab up a hooped type. I also think the hooped style looks better on the trackers.
Either way, running a front brace is sure to improve the handling and while we are on the subject what about fork dampers? I've seen quite a few 650s sporting same. Question is would they really be helpful or is it just for show. I haven't experienced "head shake" and I don't think I want to so would a damper be worthwhile?
Sorry to steal the thread dfilms.

mwb122: Another newbie here. I appreciate the page and being accepted. Just brought home a 78 xs650 special. She is running good after a little TLC. So far I have cleaned the carbs, battery, fixed leaking clutch push rod oil seal. Now what to do with her.

mahanlee: Need help identifying this part. It came in a box from the previous owner. I have searched Google and Ebay and haven't found something similar. It has a short bolt with a flat side. The only place I figure it goes is underneath the battery box.

pablosixfivezero: if your carbs aren't balanced, can that throw off your timing?
Jan 6, 2015 0:08:08 GMT -5
grizld1: Pablo, I suspect you may be joking here, but if the motor's shaking hard enough, I guess it could loosen the ignition fasteners enough to throw the timing off.
