ok so I live in houston texas. I have bs38's and a sawed off exhaust. can someone help me out with tuning the carbs and what parts I need for them.

Exhaust: 38mm ID headers x 33in long and short reverse cone megas with glass fibre silencer packing
Performance Mods:Polished heads/ports
Main Jet:140

Needle: std

Mix screw: 2 turns out
How many times you've had the carbs on and off the bike!:countless!!!

Carb set: BS38 Airbox: None. mikes Pod Filters Exhaust: 7th phase- ID 1 1/2" length 35" pipes to reverse megas Performance Mods: Pamco Ignition System. Main Jet: 142.5 Pilot Jet: stock Needle: Stock Needle Position: 2 Mix screw: stock How many times you've had the carbs on and off the bike!: NEVER
pulls great, idles great, usually first kick, unless i haven't ridden in a week or so.

# Notes: Mike's 5th gear, 17/33 sprockets, full advance timing 35 degrees, gobs of torque, pulls altered gearing in 5th about like stock engine pulls with stock gearing, 50 to 55 MPG depending on how much I beat on it ;D

so what is stock needle position. cleaned my carbs this weekend. everything looked stock. the needle position was the 4th slot from the top on both. bike ran ok before, now will not run with out enricher on all the way and not run up in rpms without dieing.
?? suggestions. the connecting tube was not connected before, had a miss R side after warming up. thanks for the ideas

•Year: '81sh •Geographic Location and Altitude: northern part of the southern peninsula of michigan •Carb set: bs34 •Airbox: uni •Exhaust: stock header w/ emgo shorties •Performance Mods: pamco, pma, upgraded coil, complete rewire •Main Jet: 137.5 •Pilot Jet: 45 •Needle: canuck needle & jet •Needle Position: #2 •Mix screw: 3 turns out •How many times you've had the carbs on and off the bike!: hmm.. same number as the us debt and counting... •Notes: i've upgraded the m/c, ss lines and rebuilt caliper. on/off/prime petcock. early clutch pushrod with motion pro cable. bike started out rough, po had installed the cam wrong. i've put about 2500 miles so far. i need a new exhaust!!
