Does anyone plan on buying this new exhaust? Could it really make 10hp over a stock exhaust? It looks like it has better ground clearance than the Mac 2-1 but it's had to say from the picture.

It's not mine I just pulled the pic off mikesxs.com you can find the price there. I'm just wondering what everybody thinks of it. I don't think it's been for sale for more that a week or 2.

I guess I'm the only one interested in it I agree it does look like it may better ground clearance than the Mac 2 into 1.. That's a plus IMO. 10HP more? I'd want to see a before and after Dyno sheet that proves that...As far as I saw, they gave no other info as to jetting or induction filtering changes.. Maybe they assume most everyone knows there is more to gaining that 10HP than just slapping their system on. Then again. since you didn't mention jetting or induction filtering changes, maybe they SHOULD have made a blurb about those in their info.. Not that I calling Mike or his crew on that, it's just that I deal with various exhausts on a very regular basis for all types of cruisers and sportbikes and we ALWAYS do a before Dyno pull to get the base number of RWHP before we start changing anything. I've never seen a full exhaust system that was merely bolted on, that made a 10HP gain WITHOUT jetting or fuel mapping changes being required. Don't know if this helps you or not. but you had a valid question that deserved some type of answer.

It sounds like they used there taper tip muffler. I would assume that they had to rejet to get a 10hp gain but I would hope thats it since they say everything else is stock.

The exhaust would use any 1 3/4" muffler. The test didn't mention a muffler so it's a good chance none was used to get the 10 hp result. If a muffler was used it seems to me it would be the free flowing Commando muffler since it is advertized as free flow, dyno tuned and developed by Heiden.

I could be wrong but I have serious doubts that any exhaust alone will give you 10 HP on a stock motor without some serious port work. I hope Im proven wrong !

Mike claims an actual +10 at the rear wheel on a stock Special that made 43 before the pipe on Heiden Tunings dyno. The muffler is a tunable megaphone that wont be ready for release for a few months. Ill love it if Im wrong and Ill buy one. Crow might not taste that bad !

I like the looks, curious about the trouble with tuning? Also how durable it'll turn out to be with blueing and or rust? I don't really care about the 10 hp though it would be nice!

I had a Mac 2-1 on a 73 35 years ago and really didnt care for the exhaust sound. Maybe it was the Mac muffler. Id have to hear one first because they have to sound right to me. I really like the old Triump 650 sound with the reverse cone megaphones on them

Here's a link to a dyno sheet for this system that was recently posted at Mike's XS. www.mikesxs.net/parts/docs/dyno_07-0767.pngMost of the gain is above 6300 RPM and that's not were I'd like the additional HP, but that's just MHO.

It doesn't apply to XS650 but, Suzuki Bandit 1200 gains at least 14hp with an exhaust change, some as much as 17hp (before and after runs) need very little/ no tweaking of jetting PJ
