Does anyone plan on buying this new exhaust? Could it really make 10hp over a stock exhaust? It looks like it has better ground clearance than the Mac 2-1 but it's had to say from the picture. I wanna see the dyno #s. (10 hp And All You Have To Do is Bolt –On These Pipes.) I have seen some outrages claims in my 35 years of building/tuning (everything from Mss.Budwiser when she was piston driven to the fastest lawn mowers in the state) In any event, a 10 hp gain w/ nothing more than changing out the exhaust pipes????on a stock motor? I’m surprised that whoever is building these pipes has a door left. And I still wanna see the dyno numbers

Ordered my Mike's 2 into 1. Get it next monday. Will post my results when I put it on my 83. The terrible thing is Mikes never has the taper tip in. So I'm gonna put a turn down cap on till I het the tip I want. Also ordered 36's but wont have those for awhile. So I'm going with xsjohn needles for now.

That tapered tip muffler is a copy of a Sportster muffler and doesn't look right on anything else. The best looking mufflers for old Brit style bikes are the long megaphone types. These have the added benefit of a very good flow to noise ratio.
Opinions abound. Mine are the best! ;^)

I am looking seriously at that as well, the short reverse cones are still not in stock

I got my pipe on guys. No tip though. It shows up tomorrow. Cones aren't my fortae. Besides a taper tip is a taper tip. I don't think Harley has the patent rights to that. I won't be caught dead putting anything Harley on my bike. All I hear is it's not a harley. Could care less and I am very bitter when it comes to the street. My fork stays tuned and I love taking my $150.00 bike and wooping up on my friends $13,000 sportster. The header is okay quality and it actually performs well. I thought that putting open exhaust on with the stock bs34's would have cost serious loss of performance. Well it didn't lose much in the low end and gained in the high end. Let me say that I love the sound and this pipe really cleans things up along with loss of weight. Tomorrow I'm gonna rejet my carbs along with needles. We'll see what that does. I wish I jad a pic but my phone has the only internet. Another thing is my bike has only 2000 miles on it so it is fresh and tight still. That said looser motors might perform differently. Another thing is this is a simple add on. And you will have to align everthing to your likeing. It seems nothing mikes puts out is an exact fit.

I hope there arent any Harley/XS650 rules, I have 2 650s & a 95 Fatboy. Cant we just all get along ? No, my 650s wont outrun my Harley either and I dont care.

More than anything else I think that a picture of the system mounted up and with a muffler attached would be great.
I will be watching this thread with great interest.
Thanks Dave

Hypothetically if a more restrictive muffler were added would the power band change? I like the idea of this system but don't like loosing hp lower down in the rpm range where I spend most of my time riding.
Sitting on the fence with this one. I have been playing around with the idea of a new system for the old girl but haven't seen one that meets all of my criteria.

Skidro I may have fallen off of that fence I spoke of earlier. I am sorry that you are not having much luck with this pipe. I thought that all of these issues were addressed with a modified version that MikesXS let out. As far as polishing out the blue............it is not going to work....best thing to do is to appreciate how it looks.

islanddave, it's been a journey for me and my exhaust. I custom built some shorty over unders but they were too loud. so i bought the 2-1 from Mikes but with no technical info I am frustrated, as with must things I buy from MikesXS, like the breather filters that don't fit, but i will get the bike running the way it should based on information from this site. i do have a pic which is on frapper but i have no idea how to get the link on this page. shoot me your email and i will send you a nice side pic of the bike with the headers - pre blue.

ekwlee, do you mean the custom exhaust? If so, they are straight pipe 1.75 diameter. They end right behind the right front foot peg. They are loud - the harley guys were impressed. They thought I was on a harley until they realized it was a bobbed jap bike. The 2-1 taper tips have a nice sound to them but a lot more subtle then my home made ones. Both on the aftermarkets - mine the MikeXS - are a lot louder than stock. I don't have any video/audio of the my custom pipes.

Im running the exhaust right now on my 79 w/36mm Mikunis.. Awesome!!! She pulls really hard right up to redline....Excellent power thru the mid-range. I just got thru replacing my stock clutch, (17k original miles), because at higher rpm under throttle she started slipping. Great power delivery, nice sound, good quality workmanship. Ive installed an AGM Big Crank battery, so I doen need no steenkin kick starter......
