Blaine, How is the ground clearance on the right side? I like to corner pretty hard, and I'm concerned that the 2-1 won't have enough clearance. I really like the looks, and I'm considering buying, just hesitant about the clearance issue. My bike is a '79 Special with low bars. Never liked the "cruiser style", but I only paid $1.00 for it in good enough condition that all it needed was a good cleaning, a battery and some plug wires.
Thanks,
David

OK I am looking for info on this 2 into 1 system . Tried installing it on my 1978 standard and the rear y pipe hits the back brake pedal lever . Looks like they made too much angle on the Y pipe outlet now I am stuck with it untill I can find a different Y pipe ? I thought about heating up and bending the rear brake pedal lever ? An extension on the splined brake shaft ? tried every twist and turn I could make on the header pipes to avoid the rear brake lever but nothing pans out . Mikes shows their 2 into 1 system on a Special model so I am wondering if there is any difference between that and a standard model Its the same engine isnt it ?

it's the same engine, however the frame is slightly different. I was looking at this exhaust for my 75. I need to email mike.

Re. pipe bluing--with a good fuel/air mix being burned, gas will exit the exhaust port at a temperature in the neighborhood of 1250* F. Single-wall pipes are going to blue on a properly tuned motorcycle. Fattening the mix to prevent bluing will result in power loss, carbon buildup, and, if carried too far, fuel scouring of rings and cylinder.
Yo, Blaine! Inquiring minds want to know--what happens when you pitch it over to the right?

I have this exhaust on my 75 standard frame. It was a real b*&^%$ getting it to fit. It did not clear the brake pedal where it pivots. After a lot of adjustments this is how I got it to work. I left the head bolts loose, slipped on the collector, and then slipped on the taper tip. Don't tightened anything yet. Then I used the flat chrome bracket and ran it from the slot forward to that flat mounting tab/bracket that has two bolt holes in it. I had to bend the chrome bracket in all weird angles to force the taper tip down so it did not hit the brake pedal. Tighten the bolt that runs through the chrome bracket (I had to drill another hole to line up with the hole on the frame) and then push down slightly on the muffler and then tighten the bolt on the muffler. That should hold it down off the knuckle of the brake lever. You also have to push it in towards the frame so the kicker doesn't hit it (it will hit it believe me). Next tightened the collector and the head bolts. ALSO - I had to rotate my brake lever up one spline so it would not hit the headers when depressed.
Basically, it was a real challenge as the tolerances are too tight but after a few scratches!!!! and some frustration it is on and looks good.
Ground clearance - if I am leaning into a right turn I will drag the collector bolt. The bolt is in the wrong position but there is no way to change it.

Swagger, what info are you looking for in regard to the 2-1 exhaust?
75XS - sorry, I did not have this discussion bookmarked. I can take some pics of the bracket et al and post them if still needed - if I can remember how after all this time.

Spraying the snot out of the inside of the pipes with hi-temp header paint after cleaning with alcohol will cut way down on the blueing {prior to starting it up }

I have it on my 650 and very happy with it.Not too loud and yes tunable.The exhaust cames with 3 bolts to be used on the baffle.I run the system without the bolts.The bolts basicaly tone down the exhaust sound.you can use one bolt,two all all tree if you want the exhast too be very quite.Nice system indeed.I got the muffler #070112 with the system.I got it 1 month ago.My Xs is a racetrack bike complete with clipons,rearset(home made).the exhaust fitted nicely.I only had to grind the kickstarter inside end a bit and.The brake lever is a modified one from the stock one.If you need some pics of the mounted system email me your email address.

75xs, I will take some today. It's a good day to take lots of pics of parts I have to try to sell them off. The first link is of the bracket that comes with the header system. I had to twist it slightly (about a 1/4 turn twist) so one end would mate up to the muffler and the other would lay flat against the frame. I also drilled a new hole in the end that mount to the frame. It's about 3/4" away from the original hole. yfrog.com/jnparts014jThe next one shows the position of the new hole in relation to the original one. yfrog.com/0iparts011jjThere are other pictures in that album of the bracket but they are not that good of quality.
