Can anyone recommend the best type of paint for brake calipers? I repainted mine and it looked great until I bleed the brakes upon refitting and the paint softened

I found a good grade of engine enamel in a semi gloss black worked great and gave me the OEM finish I was looking for. Also the engine paint was half the price of the caliper paint. You may want to change over to silicone brake fluid while you have the calipers off to paint them to eliminate the paint removal problem.Just flush out the system good. Also a good time to rebuild the calipers while your at it. I just spent a bunch of your time and a few bucks, but I like doing things once and right.

kev,
The caliper paint may not be the paint you want. If it is the stuff I'm thinking of, the caliper paint is thick for painting over rough cast calipers. I don't think heat is a problem for paint but the brake fluid may be.

I have searched the net and VHT caliper paint seems to be one of the best. Available in spray cans & several colors, blue, red, yellow, silver & satin black. Apparently after spraying and air curing, you then bake in the oven

I would switch over to silicone brake fluid, when U drop fluid on paint, it wont hurt it. when i was rebuilding my car, I used two types of paint, for cast part. like a calibur, its called cast blast, when You spray anything it looks like cast, and for the aluimin, i used cast blast for the alumium, does great, but any good paint will work, try your local body shop and ask them, they'll tell you whats a good paint,

I found even after baking spray caliper paint it needed a couple of weeks ageing to get max resistance (painted a few parts plus some small plates to experiment with) Two pack would be best Silicon fluid isn't as fantastic as people think. There's plenty of information about problems with silicon. Military is returning to conventional because of problems with silicon fluid. Its great for sloppy/lazy workers though. PJ

I have used High heat 1200 degrees + header paint (rattle can from auto parts store) on my sportbikes for years with no problems. just be sure they are CLEAN before you paint them, thats usually what causes most problems people have. I use rattle can parts or brake cleaner, a tooth brush, and a rag to clean them first.

I have had my last two sets of calipers powdercoated. The first set has been done for two years now and looks great. Just tell the person doing it what will hold up best for brake fluids.
