Does any one have any input on the taper tip mufflers from mike and what was the result? Are they worth the 39 $ a piece for a daily runner?

I run one taper tip. I have the 2 - 1 header system. At first I was not liking the whole set up but that was frustration borne from how dufficult it was to mount the headers and then position the taper tip so the kick starter would not hit it. I like it now though. The taper tip is fairly loud but not too bad. I try to coast into by garage if I come home late at night. Performance wise is a tough one since I never had a different exhaust system to compare it to except for open headers.

Cool. The mufflers appear to be of nice construction too. They slip on over the existing pipe and then bolt tight with a chrome clamp. There should be inserts to match almost any diameter pipe in case the taper tip has a larger opening. May avatar has a pic on my bike with the taper tip. img15.imageshack.us/img15/2084/skidro001.jpg

Sarah- I have an '80 Special with the 750 Big Bore Kit. They are LOUD, louder than the video may show. The have that nice snarl on decel too. I saved my brackets from my stock mufflers and was able to clamp them in a vice and "persuade" them a bit with a 2# sledge hammer so that I could use them as my mounting brackets for the tapered tips... the strap that is supplied with the tapered tips is a poor substitute. The slightly modified stock brackets look like they were made for the tapered tips and are much more secure than any jury-rig will be. I am completely satisfied with the new mufflers. I sent a reply to your PM. John Scribner

the taper tips came in today along with the carb holders and gaskets. I come to find out that who ever had this bike before cut the headpipe to fit the mufflers that are not on it. I got the carbs on and i still need to shut the idle asd screw to get idle rise. But i will not mess with it until i get a stock lenght of head pipes from mike. The current head pipe end just under the foot pegs and i red in the description from mike that the end of the pipe is 5" behind the engine case. That will place the muffler at the right place and right diameter. more obstecles. Oh well. Its called therapie isnt it?

I got the mufflers mounted to the old headpipes with a lenght of exhaust pipe cut to lenght from pepboys. It sounds great now, as my spouce would say its quieter then the other mufflers you had on it. I am still going to get new head pipes for it but needed to do something productive. My choice where scrape and paint the porch, sort out the garage or work on the bike . Guess what i picked hehehe.
