I figured I'd start a separate thread here for just help in figuring out what wiring to use with what regulators for folks who are doing the banshee permanent magnet alternator swap. I found a reg/rec from a 1998 Kawasaki Ninja 500 for $5 on ebay. I thought it was a standard 5 wire (3 yellow, ground and feedback/power), but it turns out its a 6 wire. Researching I found this wiring schematic: Does this brown lead just tie into the same circuit as the lights? The "Load" has me a bit confused on what that means exactly.

drano,
Load commonly means all of the electrical equipment on the bike. Lights, ignition, turn signals, whatever.

It looks like the brown wire serves as a cutoff to the rest of the electrical system until the reg/rect senses a positive current, yes? It seems to me Burns had a similar question a while ago. MrRiggs figured it was probably a voltage sensing wire. www.xs650temp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Charging&action=display&thread=11096&page=3BTW, the title "Regulator Rectifiers for Banshee Magneto Swap" is a little limiting, because these reg/rects will work for all Permanent Magnet Alternator systems, not just Banshees. Still, a good topic! .

That wire is the voltage sensing wire. Typically Black on Honda, Orange on Suzuki, And Brown on Yamaha and Kawasaki.
If you are running without a battery, hook the voltage sensing wire to the positive output wire.
If you are running a battery you can hook it to the positive output wire but you should check that it isn't drawing enough current to drain the battery when the bike is parked. If you're not sure how to check that then hook it up after the ignition switch so it only gets power when the key is on.

Thanks for the responses, that clears things up. Hopefully this post will serve as a place for people to post wiring diagrams for certain regulator recitifers to help others out when they do the swap.

I have made a simple diagram that works very well using a 3 Phase Stator and Regulator (I have found a source for 3 Phase Regulators NEW on the cheap that I have tested on over 10 bikes to work very well, Email or PM me for more details) Here is a wiring diagram for anyone who might need it. Like I said, its the simplest charging system on the Planet for an XS650. - Hugh

This has (I'm sure) been answered before, but please indulge me.
Are there any issues with the PM set-up and a Boyer-Branson ignition?
I have Pete's trigger on one motor with the PM set-up (first bracket that you sold as I recall) but have another 750 kitted motor that came with a Boyer and I want to run it with the PM.
can I run a kill button with that ignition, and if so what do I ground out?
