Uploaded with ImageShack.us .... I have a bit of a ... swapers remorse... I swap'd a VERY nice 80 Sr500... Big Bore kitted.. hot cam.. Super Trapp Exhaust... Serious " Grin " factor.... Really hauled the mail. I swap'd for a 1972 Xs.. runs well. Needs a set of mufflers.. seat...( I have a set from Mikes Xs). The guy I swap'd with is going to address a couple of minor issues with the paint. I'm a sucker for the 1972 Xs... the best look'n model year. Had to sell mine after the divorice years ago. The fellow I swap'd thinks the 1973's are the best look'n years.. wrong... Cafe Phil, I believe thinks it's the 1975.. wrong... and another friend likes 76... again wrong. Mike, MN

URL=http://img706.imageshack.us/i/newspedeebike006.jpg/] [/URL] .... Hung the new Mikes Xs exhaust system. Header pipes quickly turned blue. Once I get my stock units chromed I'll swap it back. A new seat will be in order also. New tires helped the ride. Got everything working now. Even starts with the electric foot. It needs left side engine seals but runs smoothly and sounds great. I have no intention to make it a restoration project.... ( still working on my xs1 unit )... but to keep it a nice original and address wear and tear only.

I very pleased to report.. I did NOT add anything to the " Tree of Shame ". Dragon's Tail, Deals Gap, NC. The bike ran great..hauling myself and the girl friend up and down all 318 curves. Spent 3 days ride'n around the Smoky Mountains and the bike was a photo Op for Harley riders at the over looks. Got a bunch of .. " had one.. wish I'd kept it.. " stories.

Well MM, hard to argue with you on the looks of the '72 - looks good. Although I don't think we can argue the fact that the '77 is the best looking of them all (LOL)! And ya, I've heard a lot of those " had one.. wish I'd kept it.. " stories over the years. So what's this "yawn" with the BMW? I have an '84 R100RT. I love it. Gotta be one of the most robust bikes ever built.

The 77 Standards are a handsome machine. Nice lines... and once you address the bushings..shocks..etc etc.. they handle well and cruise all day long. I enjoy my 77... had it for over 25 years and only had to trailer it home twice... both electrical gremlins. Ref the " Yawn ".. unlike the other bikes.. the BeeeMer has no " grin " factor. I don't get on " Herr Fritz " and start grin'n like I do on the other bikes..... No thumbs up from other riders and cagers. " Herr Fritz " is happy rip'n white lines at 90 MPH.... 2 up and 45 MPG... I can fuel it up and do a couple hundred plus miles.. unless she's on the back, she's got a 145 mile bladder.. .. It's a great bike.... we don't use it as much as we use to.. we plan on an overnight next month with Herr Fritz to visit the " SPAM " museum in southern MN and the new M/C museum in Anamosa, Iowa.

Ya, I'll do weekenders on the Beemer without a worry. I've done quite a bit of work on it and I've been getting a lot of compliments on it lately. I took my '77XS from Montreal to Vancouver, then down into Mexico(Tijuana), then back to Montreal thru the midwest in 1980. Took me 3 months. Not your typical 'touring' bike, but it was nice in the mountains. The only problem I ran into on that trip was piston slap a week into the trip. Got the top end done in Calgary and it was worry free the rest of the way!
