This is a stickied reference thread, girls. Stay on topic and take this chatter somewhere else.

ok. Back to subject as ordered. I decided not to drill the boots. process takes too long and this thing has to get running NOW. Or at least this weekend so I can put the car in the shop. I do wish I would have bought the stock boots though. Mistermoe I will PM you on the offer.

Now that I have Mikes boots back on, I will drill out the JBM boots and install the barbs and have a set of spare usable boots.

Have been checking the web but can't find a place to buy Sudco boots for XS650. Any one know where to purchase? Thanks - Mike

Afraid I have bad news to share on the JBM boots. Don James' claim that no air box or other added support is needed may be true with the lightweight mechanical carburetors typical of the ultralight aircraft applications with which he's most experienced, but it is emphatically not true when heavier carburetors such as BS series vacuum carbs or 4-stroke pumpers are hung in them. After two seasons of use I discovered vacuum leaks in the boots. Examination showed that both had split at the spigot stops; exactly where one would expect them to fail due to lack of the OE metal shroud. The boots should hold up well if and only if carbs are supported.
BTW, the OE carb boots were made by ARS, and ARS boots are still sold under the Tour Max label. They are the ones listed as alcohol resistant by 650 Central.
