hey all. i had an issue a few weeks back where i wasnt advancing spark. engine would start and run at idle, but when given throttle it would just spit and sputter. i swapped out my black ignitor box and it ran fine. (engine is an 81 wired to chopper specs) now a couple weeks later i go out to start the bike, and it fires right up but then dies. when you throtle it, it just dies. now i hate to drop another $100 on a box if its not the problem. anyway to test it? the symptoms are very similar to before but slightly different due to the fact that this time the motor dies out at throttle. on a side note, it may be coincidence but both times this has happened the bike was in the rain the night before. any help is appreciated.

There is no one specific test for the TCI box. All other areas need to be eliminated before concluding the TCI is bad.
Start with the simple first. What is the battery voltage before starting? If it runs long enough, what is the battery voltage at 1200 rpm, after about 2 minutes?
How old is the battery?

pulled the box, opened it up, and sure enough water came out. dried it out with a hair drier, fired it up, ran fine. put a bead of silicone around the box and sealed it good. problem solved, thanks
