Hey guys, got an elec. issue on my 79 XS650 special. Searched the forums but couldn't find the answer. Bike's running beautifully but can't take it on the road cuz I don't have a brake light. Let me re-phrase that, I have a brake light and tail light but they're both on continously. I'm getting constant power to both wires, yellow and blue. The yellow is my brake light. I've went through the whole wiring harness and checked all ground wires. In the tail light, the yellow wire's plugged into yellow and blue into blue. The ground in tail light is good. What else could be the problem? Trying to figure out from wiring schematic what else could be responsible for making the brake light work properly

There is a switch that activates it connected to the rear brake pedal with a spring. It is adjustable. Maybe it's adjusted wrong so the plunger isn't returning into the switch to shut the light off.

unplug the wires comming from the front and rear brake light switches one at a time to determine which switch is causing the problem.

Rear brake light switches are about $6.00 each and are pretty universal. Takes about 10 minutes to change it out and you will be good to go. ....Mel....

Problem solved! Had a couple things going on: like 5twins suggested, I checked the activator and it was indeed adjusted wrong. Didn't take into account it needed readjustment when I put on rearsets. Thought I was good to go, but then the brake light would intermittently pop on and stay on. Turns out the little metal connectors on the brown and yellow wires going to the activator were touching sometimes. Put some of those plastic things on them and problem fixed! Thanks again!
