I am going to ask a dumb question - does the light work? I test my new ones by finding my ground wire and attaching it to the negative of the battery or a good frame ground and then touching the other two wires (one at a time) to the positive terminal or a known good power source/wire. If it does start eliminating possible issues like the dimmer switch. Is it grounded correctly?

i undewrstand the questions but yes to both, it does work and it is grounded correctly. i was thinking it might have to do with the reserve lighting unit but i check and it does have power going in and coming out

Snyx...... This is going to sound REALLY stupid, but is your engine running?
On the later models (78 and later, I think) - the Safety Relay will not light up your headlight until your engine is actually running and your alternator is generating power. This keeps maximum power available to run your starter and get your engine (and alternator) running before you tack on the BIG power drain.
Yeah - confused hell out of me (and more than a few others) at first - although it is a pretty logical idea when you think about it......
