I finally got around to installing my Pamco on my 83 xs. There seem to be a lot of side-to-side play. I would guess about 3/16" of an inch. Is this normal? I haven't wired it in yet since I didn't order the connectors. Any suggestions on what connectors to use on those tiny wires?

geohatdook, The end play is 1mm. A stock advance rod has .5mm end play. The end play will not effect the performance of the PAMCO, but if you would prefer, I can send you a .5mm shim washer. Just PM me your address. Use crimp on connectors with the red plastic. That is the color code for 22 gage wire. Please review the advance instructions in the web site www.yamahaxs650.com as there are a couple of tips there to ensure the advance rod does not bind.

Pete, Thanks for the shims, I'll install them tomorrow. Now, before I blow anything up, I've got the hot wire (fused) going to the black on the coil and the red on the pamco, the blue on the coil to the green on the pamco, and the black on the pamco to ground. Sound okay?

geohaydook, Yes, that sounds correct. You can also remove the short wires that came on the coil to expose the male spade terminals on the coil itself. Here is a simple diagram for the wiring: Install the shim washer on the advance side of the rod: 1. Remove the PAMCO rotor on the points side. 2. Pull the advance rod, complete with the slotted disk attached, out on the right side of the engine. 3. With the slotted disk still attached, slide the shim washer on the rod from the other end until it is in contact with the slotted disk. 4. Reinstall the rod and rotor. Note: I sent you 2 X .5mm shims but only install one to reduce the end play from 1mm to .5mm . The other shim was sent in case you lose one.
