I already have the factory TCI with a higher-output coil and silicone wires and NGK caps. Would a pamco or Boyer-Bransden make that much of a difference? I know the guys with points ignition would say so but what about those with the TCI?

If your TCI is working, it's about the best to use. My 81 runs well with the TCI, once it starts screwing up I might do a few easy repairs then it gets a Pamco. The Pamco is a great ignition and the support it has is right here in the US of A and right on this forum. What could be better? As far as a difference in running not so much. The higher output coil and better plugs will do more than the igition itself.

I will say that the original coil for the Boyer system is a Gill - and (even admitted by Triumph - which uses them as OEM on their bikes) it's a piece of crap.
Mine did the job for about 5 years and recently crapped out. I followed a thread here - found out that the coil for a Chevy Corsica (or similar model) will work with the Boyer Box, and made the move. Now I have a bike that runs on both cylinders again!
The worst problem you'll have with Pete's ignition will probably be reinstalling an advance mechanism - but it's in the kit if you get the right kit. And as Leo says - The guy who designed and invented it is right here on the forum. As for a higher output coil - Pete has a coil that blasts out 82,000 volts of spark..... you can't find much better!
