Hello everyone from wernersville,pa My question is how often should a condenser be replaced?I believe there is no way of testing a condenser to tell if it is good or not. Also while im asking questions.I took off the carbs on my 78 xs650 and I cleaned them up as good as I could I took notice that on the bottom of the carbs I guess it would be under the bowls, there are what looks like to me fuel line fittings. There wasnt anything attached to these fittings when I removed the carbs anyway not that I noticed.Does anyone know what these fittings are for? Have a great day Troy

You usually replace condensers when you replace the points - they usually come as a kit together.
At the bottom of the bowls? - the only thing that's there is the drain plug (you also access your main jet through there). On the side of the main body just above the bowls is a fuel line fitting - one on the left side (on the right hand carb) and one on the right side (on the left hand carb). There is supposed to be a fuel line between them so ensure that both carbs can get fuel if one of your petcocks doesn't work.

The fittings on the bottom of the float bowl are the overflow for the float bowls. They had a hose on them that ran down behind the engine. On cars and such a condenser comes with the points as part of a tune up kit. On our XS's the tune up kit is just the points. The condensers are two combined into a single unit mounted on the inside of the upper engine mount. Leo
