so I modified the Shorty reverse megaphone muffler I got from Mike 's. I removed the baffle it came with, and converted it to a glass pack. I made a core out of 1 5/8" fence line post(ghetto, I know) but it was the perfect size for the muffler outlet. I drilled 91 3/8" holes in the core, welded it to the end cap, and wrapped it in FMF fiberglass muffler packing. bike is somewhat quieter, no longer sounds like a Cessna. A quick ride down the street, and the bike feels quicker, more low to midrange pull. does this sound like a proper reaction? prior to this, there was a noticeable midrange flat spot with the 2-1 exhaust( also from Mike's). Also, before all of this, based on reading the plugs, the jetting on the 36mm mikuni's seemed to be about right. I figure I may need to richen it up a bit now. My concern is this though, I know chrome pipes discolor, but what's it mean when they turn brown instead of blue? thoughts?

This may just be hogwash wives tale rumor, but I've always heard that gold/tan is the color the pipes should turn, rather than blue, but maybe they all turn blue after a long enough time. Reason behind the story was that blue indicates a really hot cylinder, or possible lean condition, which isn't good. Again, that might just be BS. I would say that if one pipe looks a lot different than the other, then there is a significant difference in the cylinders which could be caused by a lot of things, including fuel/air. non-stock xs pipes are typically single wall, so they are destined to change color, no matter what.
The glass pack sounds like a novel idea. Can you pull the baffle out to repack? A lot of times that fiberglass packs in and gets louder over time.

Also the right side always tends to run a little hotter than the left. There's a multitude of reasons, but it just happens.
