If your running non stock bulbs in your turn signal to save power u must replace the flash unit because there"s not enough resistance. You can buy this little black box for $15 at.http://www.customdynamics.com/loadequalizer.htm#Universal%20Turn%20Signal0. Once u install that you can run anything including LEDS just keep it away from the coil to avoid interference. problem solved

It's just a big load resistor, though. Most guys switch to LED's to save power, and this thing just wastes it again. Better to get a real LED flasher unit.

i put the Grote flasher 44890,works grate and with a small mod i made it fit my 74' i took the white wire from the top (ground) and connected it internally to the third pin ("P" pilot) buy cutting the leg that touches the internal relay so it fitted to my plug flasher without modifying the plug, if you don't want to do the mod buy the 2 pin version and ground the white wire, and the brown wires need moving around, and if your looking for a cheap plug for a new flasher a relay socket works well......heres the sight www.grote.com/product.php?product_number=44890

www.bauer-electron.com/ makes a very small, adjustable LED flasher that I use on my XS. They only sell it through their eBay store, though, and it doesn't even show up on their website. All they have is a link to their eBay store which shows them. They're $12.99 (Cdn) +S&H, but it's small, and you don't have to switch around contacts, since it's set up with wires, not a hard case.

My wife had a bobber with no signal lights. I added LED signals and a flasher unit. Once installed, I had the problem that several others described - blinkers work with the engine off, but erratically when running. To me, that meant that the flasher unit was picking up induced current from the nearby coil. I moved the flasher back near the battery. Still did not work. Must be corroded wiring or poor ground right? Nope - no joy. Upgraded the charging system with solid state regulator and rectifier thinking it was the source of the electronic noise. Nope! It was the Bauer flasher all along. By the way, the Bauer comes with lots of installation caveats and even a temporary load resistor to use during the process. I did follow all those instructions Replaced with superbrightleds.com LF1-pin. Works perfectly; no list of scary installation precautions. I put the flasher unit back in its original location too, but didn't bother re-corroding the wiring connections

you keep the original turn signal switch and everything with both of these units right? was planning on ditching my stock signals to go with something that doesn't stick out so much and draws less power...

No need to change the turn switch, but if you have a model that has a single turn signal (not seperate right & left) indicator light, you will have to make a slight modification to the wiring to prevent all four signal lights from flashing at the same time. With a LED directional signal system and a single indicator light on the panel, enough current will bleed across and flash both sides when you activate either side of the switch. Simple mod - two cheap parts and wiring change like this: xs650temp.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=light&thread=14671&page=1
