I have a 1980 xs650 with cdi conversion (unsure of make). The bike ran fine last year however when I try to start it, the headlight does not come on, and the bike cranks but won't fire. Checked and replaced the coils, checked all connections and looked for broken or frayed wiring can't see anything out of place. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

Doug - the 80's came from the factory with electronic ignition, so it could be OEM, rather than a conversion.
The headlights are set up so that they won't come on until the engine is running (saves battery power for the starter and ignition), so that bit should be normal......
The OEM Ignition system, however, does seem to have reliability problems when they get this old. Unfortunately, I'll have to defer that to someone who knows the system better than I do.
