Tony, You can use any "front" hub off any XS 650 model. If you use a hub before I think 77 you have to drill through the caliper holes all the way through the hub and re-tape--very easy to do, only takes minutes. The older hubs are exactly the same but the disks rotor holes did not go all the way through like on the later models. The later models used longer bolts. You have to get a conversion kit from Omars to work. omarsdtr.com/stwheel.htmlit will come with everything you need and instructions. You basically flip the hub around, install his bearings (no seals) and his spacers and sprocket and your good to go. I had Buchanan make up the rims and spokes. I used stainless polished spokes and nipples. I used Japanese excell rims, 18' rear and 19' front same as the stock standard. I forget right now but I used the same stock size the standards used for tires. I think 110/90 18 rear and 90/90 19 front. www.buchananspokes.net/The stock 79 came with a stock rear dics brake but I did not want to use mag wheels. I think the whole deal is about just over $1,000.

I agree - looks sweet with the rear disk and spokes - but for now I think I'll keep my drum - I'm too damn cheap!

I'm new to the forum and am building a 78 cafe racer, the question I have is has anyone ever removed all of the gearing and shafting for the electric start not to mention the motor to make it kick start only? Seems to me if it is possible it would save a considerable amount of weight. Thanks Cotton
