I'm looking at putting some aftermarket mufflers (shorty's from tcbros) on my otherwise stock 82 Heritage Special. I do not recall where, but somewhere I read that aftermarket mufflers on stock head pipes often times don't work with the specials- something about the foot pegs getting in the way.
Has anyone run into this problem? Or is not something I need to worry about?

On my 81 special I had to remove the center stand. The passenger pegs are fine. I find a complete after market system works the best, fit finish and leaks wise.
I'm sure if someone was a talented welder they could keep the center stand on and make everything fit.
I cut the head pipes and have shortly mufflers on one bike, sounds and runs good but I can never get it totally sealed right.
Another bike I bought the Mikes Commando exhaust system, it comes with everything you need, hanger's, hardware, gaskets and bolts right on...no exhaust leaks and the center stand is kept on. The shortly mufflers are louder. The commando is not as load but louder than stock.
