So Hurricane Irene made her way through the Baltimore area last Saturday and Sunday, leaving massive power outages in her wake. We lost power at 5am Sunday. I was at Walmart at 7am Sunday buying 100 pounds of ice. We managed to keep our fridge and freezer cold Sunday and Monday... but the power company said that they were trying to get everyone back online by FRIDAY. I got on the phone and tried to source a generator to save the $600 worth of food. My brother called me and said "Hey I have a generator that I got at an estate sale... but it doesnt have a gas tank..." I say, no problem, I have the tank from my XS650. So, a couple of hours and a couple of beers later, we were up and running. The carb on the generator was gummed up, but I have had a lot of practice cleaning my BS34's so I just got out my carb cleaning tools and went at it. My brother (he's on the left, I'm in the middle) is the real motor head in the family...was a little shocked that I knew what I was doing. Uploaded with ImageShack.usThe generator (vintage 70s) had no muffler and was loud as hell, but I was used to that, too. I didnt care - my fridge was keeping my beer cold again. Power came back on the next morning. I put the tank back on the bike and rode it to work. Life is good.
