Hello every one. I just picked up my first xs650 today, a stock 79 for 500$. I got it home knowing it didnt run and i had to dig in and figure it out. It look like the starter solinod is missing completely. there are a the wires for it but its gone. So my questionis. is it possible to get it started (kick only) without it? or is it needed? I would really like to get it running to see what it can do.

You should be able to. The starter solenoid only sends power to the starter motor itself - not the ignition. So as long as the ignition is turned on, you should be able to kick-start it - as long as there's nothing else missing from the system.
