Hi Terra (can I call you that, if you don't mind), sounds like you got a bargin of a engine there for $300.oo, if it has been rebuilt. Just some info on your 270 deg conversion, Jerry does not do them any more. The only place to get the rephase pin is from a guy in Australia, you can find him thru the Australian xs650 club site www.xs650.org.au then go to the Racers Bits page, I have had many dealings with him, a real good guy, super helpful to boot with any problems I have had with my engines. Both my engines 650cc and 750cc are rephased to 270 deg using his pins, vibration almost gone and they just want to rev and pull like there is no tomorrow. Best mod without a doubt you can do to a xs650/750. You will love it when done. Give him a go and you will never look back. Also check out his own bike, Dazzled, super trick, the thing is going to be awesome when it's finished, you should all check out what this guy can do, he is a real master with these bikes, not like some so called specialist that are out there. He is the number one man when it comes to getting these things to go real hard and still be reliable. Thanks for listening, John.

I actually had my Cam & Crank rephased to 270 & shipped back here where my builder assembled it for my other project. That one is not quite done yet, so I haven't ridden it. It's kind of funny, I was just looking at that website a few minutes ago, and also got the Hydraulically Damped Cam Chain Tensioner from the link on that page for my other project. What cam did you use for the rephase? I had previously used the MikesXS HP cam because I had already bought it, but now I've heard different opinions with people suggesting Shell or Megacycle.

I plan to have double disc brakes & hydraulic clutch, but can't find matching set of reservoirs that I like. Can anyone suggest a set?

Thanks, I actually do ride a Ducati and will look into it. I don't like the ones on my current Ducati Monster 1000s, but the old ones on my m620 might be ok.

Need another opinion. I already ordered these Omar's Fork Boots: but I also like Omar's Aluminum Fork Brace: & TKat's Fork Brace: Would it look really retarded to have the fork boot & fork brace together? I'm not sure if there is enough room & might have to compress the fork boot a bit to fit both: www.tkat.com/forkbrace/diagram.htm

I have fork boots not Omar's. My next build will be a scrambler with high pipes and fork boots included.

Change of plans now! Rode the bike around & it felt so sluggish & heavy. I talked to builder and decided I will probably sell this project to finance a whole new lighter frame. I still have the spare 83 XS650 motor, so it will still be XS650 based project. Right now I'm looking at: Cheney Engineering Frame vs Trackmaster Frame. I'm leaning towards the Cheney Frame due to the cost. I'm only worried that the back seat area kicks up a bit and I don't want that flat track seat look. I want more of flat seat, and might have 2 seats that interchange depending on type of riding I want to do. I stumbled onto this style recently: imageshack.us/photo/my-images/208/021020111675.jpg/I might go with a longer version of it.

I like the Cheney only because it has room for a single carb. For a powerful dirt bike engine I'd want a very tractible low end, knowing WOT would be ferocious. Raising the back end with longer shocks and dropping the front end in the clamps will really change the steering character of the stock XS frame. I noticed grizzled did this and was very pleased so I did the same. I also have wide #10 bars. With my bike in good tune, I rode to VMD with full camping gear and when I got there idled feet up through the swap meet to show off. The stock frame does weight a ton so if money isn't too much deterent then a new frame would help the diet. Have you checked out the Rickman-Metisse? A complete roller ready to accept an XS engine. xs650temp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=CustomPics&action=display&thread=9002www.boldormotorcycles.co.uk/img/bikes/detail/large-1981-YAMAHA-METISSE-XS650.jpgI run a T-Kat brace with Norton Gaitors. The $12 thin rubber gaitors fell apart but not because of the brace. They also fell apart on my Triumph. Tom

What do you mean it has room for one carb? I better make before I buy it. LOL I was debating ordering the Dellorto PHF36 pumper Carburetor Kit, or maybe see if I could find someone to hook up a Ecotrons 400cc to 800cc Small Engine EFI Kits. I'm looking for a neck w/ title to use because NJ DMV is such a pain to deal with. Yes, I seen the Metisse, but it's not quite the look I'm going for. Funny you should mention the gaiters. I'm a bit conflicted. I sold the ones I originally got after I saw the fatter version on MotoLanna: www.motolanna.com/ourshop/prod_1035166-Fork-Gaiters-Rubber-Fatty.htmlI also saw the polyurethane gaiters on 650central: www.650central.com/Daystar%20gaiters.jpgThis might be the same kind I bought & sold originally. Looks the same. I prefer the fatty style. I like the Cheney only because it has room for a single carb.
