Go to Google. go to Images Punch in XS 650 gas tank... 1970 ( and then 1971, and 72 and so forth,) you will see your gas style and year tank, eventually. Preston

Pres, there you are again! Hey, I happened to notice the "tank" subject.
I cleaned out the internals of my 81 60 tank even before I sanded it or roughed it for painting. Used Arm & Hammer heavy sodium stuff with a steel rod hooked up to a power supply and grounded. Filled the tank with sodium + water. Got a lot of gunk out of there. Anyway, it's surface rust inside the tank again and I even flushed it with Kerosene.
What have some of you "senior members" been using to clean out the inside of the gas tank?
Sgt Stev

Power wash inside with hot water,, with L nozzle on the end of power washer wand... , have some one hold the tank... DO NOT Strap it down like I did ( another story time )... then after hot water power wash, add 1/2 gallon gas,, and a 6" length of heavy chain inside, shake 15 minutes,, dump out,, do it again, and then rise with clean gas, fill with High Test, and go riding with the new clear little L style gas filters, check them after 5 tank-full,, ( and mine are fine , with my new tank, which came from California, to me via Craigslist ) Go riding. Get off the internet. Preston.

OK, I like the power wash thing, gives me a chance to show off my ma-chine to the neighbor! Chain sounds good, I mean the idea sounds right. I had cleaned it and EVEN did the kerosene thing and it still developed surface goobers.
I do believe I'll primer it, rub down, tack, paint, paint, coat and then after we've dried I'll do the final clean out of the internal.
Sgt Steve thanks!
