Hello, I have a mostly stock 77 XS650-D. I purchased the Part #14-0901 ignition set from MikeXS and have most of it installed. I’m having a problem mounting the coil. Lack of space. I saw on the Pamco website to mount it where the old coils came out but can’t fit it in because of the silver can and black electrical device mounted in this space. I’m looking for suggestions. Maybe relocate these 2 pieces to make room but not sure where to put them. Hope you can help. Thank you for any help in advance, Slimbob Attachments:

I did not like, or use those home depot things,, i just made a small plate, and drilled it, and bolted coil in place.. i turned around the turn signal silver can, and then shoved it forward,,, with the other wires,,, all is well, on both my bikes... if you send me a PM, with your e-mail, i may have a photo i can send to you. The square rubber box is your turn signal canceling unit. You can eliminate it if you like (simply unplug it) or just bend it's mounting tab up into the neck to relocate and provide more coil room .....

The coil can be mounted with out displacing any of the original components, without 650 alteration. Here's my mount and install...77D

5Twins, I was unaware you could bend the mounting tab for the Turn signal Canceling unit. Where did you relocate the the silver can to that is in this space?
2Manyrides, What did you make this L bracket from? Did you fabricate this or is it a piese of something you moddified?
Thanks, Slimbob

I made a custom bracket for my new coil which included a tab for the flasher .....

The angle of the new bracket "rolls" the coil into the center of the available space and also angles the plug wire towers downward some. I figured that would help stop them from collecting water if riding in the rain .....

Thanks for the reply. I've mounted the coil like 2manyrides. It could use improvement. Mighty tight in the Gas tank tunnel.
Will have to refine it in the fall. Too much riding to do now.
