I've noticed a few posts on the topic of tilting the engine forward a bit for the purpose of improving handling by lowering the CofG and shifting it forward slightly as well. After checking out my frame and mounts etc, it seemed like it's not all that difficult for someone who's prepared with some fabrication skills. I was going to fab some new pipes anyhow, and I'm sure that custom pipes would be in order after such a mod. Some new engine mount brackets wouldn't be a big deal. I guess the oil level would be something that needs to be played with do be sure it isn't too deep in the sump.
Here are a few questions: 1) Has anyone tried it and observed that there's any noticable benefit to modding the engine position that way?
2) My plan is to leave the lower rear mount in it's original position, then pivot the engine around that point - downward, pretty much as far as it will go. Then fabricate brackets for the rest of the mounts. The bottom/center mount under the middle of the engine is the only one where there may be trouble. It is above the frame tube and totally in the way... needing to be removed. To re-mount the engine in the altered position would require a hole to be drilled through the bottom frame tube... But that's how the earlier frames are anyhow, so I see no harm in that. OR - Just omit the bottom center mount... Much simpler
Any ideas? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's tried this
Thanks - BK

Hugh's HandBuilt has an article you might get some good ideas from. It's a hardtail frame but his mounting solutions would definitely apply to your project. What's really cool is Hugh's solution for the front mount: My Birthday Present To Myself!!.

Interesting - Thanks! It looks like Hugh tilted the engine using the bottom center bolt as a pivot point. I'm leaning heavily toward using the existing lower rear bolt as a pivot point.
Good to see this stuff, thanks for replying.
