I don't know anything about the X-pipe for the XS650, But I have read about it on xs11.com. Installation on that bike is not straight forward. The centerstand must be removed and the side stand relocated. There are no other exhaust being manufactured for that bike, so you take what you can get. It's not the same story for the XS650. There are a lot of options. www.xpipe.org/ If you google x-pipe XS650, you'll find links to those who have tried it.

Take your money and get your heads ported, install a decent 2 into 2 exhaust system, install round slides carbs that'll boost your over all power out put over that X pipe.
If you want to boost low to mid torque install the H pipe cross over would be a better option which has been used by BMW,Triumph,Harley, etc.

thanks everyone, that link to kz rider was interesting reading, the real issue seems to be quality of the pipes.im mainly intrested for the fact the pipes go under the motor(oil changes would be a nuisence)but make forward controls fitment easier (dodgy legs)also getting at the sidestand alot easier but dont want to lose power, any gain would be a bonus.at that price the quality is a worry

The ad is hype but it is just a pipe. :^)
Really, an X pipe is a 2 into 1 back into 2. No mystery that I can see. Campbell's writeup is like the ads I saw in 1970's magazines with two pages of great claims to ultimate wealth. The ads gave no indication why it would work just the fantastic claims. If the X pipe looks cool to you, I see no reason why a person shouldn't buy one. It is a pipe.
The British twins, that our bikes have much in common with, found that small diameter pipe, 1 3/8", gave better performance due to the higher velocity of the exiting exhaust pulse. These bikes use a crossover near the exhaust port and this is said to make the engine more lively. I think a fun pipe would be 1 3/8" formed into an X in front of the engine. The remaining pipe would run along the lower frame tubes as stock, exiting at good flowing mufflers like Dunstall Decibel replicas.

opps, sorry i forgot to send update.pipes were a total waste of time and money.quality was poor.made from thin exhaust pipe (1st time ever had header pipes made from exhaust pipe, these would burn out in no time) and painted with bbq paint and to add insault to injury. sent wrong pipes.the headers wanted to run on the outside of the rails if the were to sit squre into the head.no joy from the makers BEWARE!!!!!!!!(pity still like the design)

Most header pipe are just exhaust pipe bent to fit. Buy some prebent pipes sections. I did, build your own. Some places even have kits of bends just for building motorcycle exhaust. Get 1.5 inch pipe. Leo

by exhaust pipe i meant the thin walled pipe that sticks out of the back of your car on a very cheap china made car.as to getting a set made up, due to labour costs in oz no chance. back in 2002 before i got a computor i rang arround cairns and the cheapest quote i got for a set of 2 into 1s to be made was $600 (raw) (and the final price here is always more than the quote???) but problem solved bought a set from hughs that let me do whats needed and im more than happy. with the xpipes ive worked a way to use them it will mean taking bike and pipes to a exhaust shop and hopefully get them to rebend the angle near the head to suit.BUT the walls are that thin they definitly wont last long...so again i say beware this mob
