G'day,
Need some advice regarding a windshield for the 1981 XS 650.
A buddy of mine has just about wrapped up the refurb on the XS 650. I hafta' order a couple rubber gas tank bumpers and I'd like to get as close to possible to a stock windshield if there is such a thing. I'm just starting to learn more about this bike as we move along.
Thanks in advance, Sgt Steve

Slipstreamer Spitfire is OK if you want a small one.

One of the best shields out there is National Cycle's Streetshield EX. I used it on my Harley and VMAX. It offers more protection than most shields and costs far less than Memphis Shades shields. ....Mel....

There wasn't a "stock" windshield. Most any aftermarket wind shield you like will work fine. Leo

Mike Morse, @ www.650central.com/ or best to call 209-533-4346 He is very knowledgeable about the Slip Streamer shields, which come out and in front of your hands. ( and the standard style ) You can go to his website, and view the photos on the link (bottom left on main page). It is best to call him, and not try to e-mail him. Best to you.. Preston

Pres, sorry I"m so far behind I'm in front,,,like NASCAR!
Finally ended up with the same shield that Slide has, the Street-Shield X. Fitted it up kinda' easily and it seems to do the job. Very stable even in bad weather/wind. And it stays in place!

Judging from this photo, I would say the Street Shield EX offers no protection for your hands. IMHO, it looks good on the XS650 Special.

Looks good I will eventually get the low profile Slip-Streamer, which extends out to your hands. Today, the Weather was perfect for riding,, but i say that all year, if no salt or snow on the road. preston

Pres,
Sorry, I haven't been on the site in a couple of weeks. Had the son-in-law's dad pass so it was a little busy, trying to help.
Anyway, you know by now but nope, it doesn't protect the hands at all but otherwise it's a great shield. Solid and it seems to give fairly good protection. I don't have a lot of buffeting and I'm an even 6' and always wear a helmet.

Sgt Steve,
What screen did you get? I lost a Spitfire last week. A rock hit it on the interstate. Better it than my face!

as suggested from SlipStremer, I just bought a SS-20T from 650Central, ... to use with my "drag type straight bars"... I will report back, after installation. I started by looking at the SS-28 by slip streamer, but they said it was designed for stock bars and it would sit too high above my hands. You can google the images to see them both. Best to you.. preston

Shield update. do not purchase a SS-20 Slip Streamer, and expect it to fit a XS650. As it will not, ( without modifications ) even if bike is stock. Preston PS > Mine is on return route to distributor .

Sgt Steve, What screen did you get? I lost a Spitfire last week. A rock hit it on the interstate. Better it than my face! Sorry, I've been wrapped up, see the Sept 25th post I made above. No hand protection but it is solid, I like it, works well. Has the 4 point mount. Sgt Steve
