I thought I'd look into my clutch before reassembling my '74 TX and I discovered that it has a 7 plate clutch. My engine is a '74 I'm pretty sure, the engine #s begin with 447 But when I looked into the clutch I found that it has a 7 plate which is contrary to what the manual says it should have. The entire clutch assy is pretty new-ish looking and all the plates are up to spec, thickness wise. So I'm just trying to figure this out. Was there by any chance a recall on clutches that year?
BTW the clutch was slipping a bit when I had the bike on the road a few yrs ago, so I bought some stiffer springs and put em in there. Taking the basket off and checking everything out, it appears to be A-OK.. The cush springs and all else looks alright.
Is the release rod and the lever on the left side all compatible?
If there's anything special I should know before sealing it all up, now is the time.
Thanks for all the help - You all are a good bunch of people.

The 73 clutches used rubber cushions between the plates. They used 6 plates. When you remove the rubber cushions you can add an extra plate. In 74 they changed things to eliminate the rubber cushions. Even though your bike is a 74 it may have had a 73 clutch in it. If you look at a parts seller like boats.net you can look at the parts ficjes and see what I mean. As long as it works then it doesn't really matter what years it is. Leo
