Has this forum fallen by the wayside? Too bad if it has. XS650.com has alot of nice bells and whistles, but most of it is about XS650 destruction. I'm keeping my bikes but internet relevance for the XS650 enthusiast appears to be waning. Thoughts? I like the way this bike looks. Just the way it is.

Don't think this is " dead ".. I check it often ...but, I don't have any issues that you guys always seem to get me back on the road.. and others who need help are usually ride'n before I can offer my input. Perhaps members are busy with life in general... ? Nice bike... I just took my 82' Xs out for only the second time this year. It's always difficult to start from cold... don't even try the electric foot... takes about 10 stomps with the foot before it fires... once warmed.. the electric foot works. The wife likes ride'n on this one because she sits a bit higher then the other bikes. My other Xs bikes are running and hopefully I won't have to call on you guys to bail me out. I'v been help'n a friend work on Xs units for his customers... mostly early models... restorations. A 71'Xs1b we sent to Switzerland found a very happy camper. He sent us photos of the bikes ripping around the Alps.

Marty, I check in daily, but I notice that quite a few staffers haven't logged in for quite some time. Another thing I've noticed is that in spite of lower post activity, we have new members registering daily. A site that caters to the lowest common denominator is going to draw more traffic than one that doesn't, but when folks have serious issues they know that if they come here they'll get straight answers right off rather than having to wade through a bunch of random spouting from the Peanut Gallery.
BTW, Ann and I will be hitting the road for Stecoah on the SV650 on Thursday. We'll be taking our time, putting up at Decatur or Athens and rolling on to the Iron Horse on Friday. See you there--this time for sure (knocking wood....).

For what it worth,, this forum, and the deep pockets of info, has put both my 650 on the road, as daily riders.. Carbs, electrical, yea Pamco, charging , how to spoke my wheels, all was from this site. I check daily. I am not member of any other site, as i have no time. Not a lot a traffic lately, as all our rides are running great, i guess , and we are out riding as much as possible. ( work seems to interfere5 days a week) 10EC, needs good long lasting diaphragms for his 81 XS carbs , i know he can find them here, if he asks. Preston

She'll have the banner, tee shirts, etc. You'll find her. Jeff Hallberg will be there signing folks in. I'm pumped and ready to go. I'd like to encourage more XS650 riders to join us.

Dead or has the forum programing changed for the worse? I can't even get on this site anymore since it changed. I'm using another browser to access it now but it's not easy so I'm not active. Can we go back to the old forum to save the 'garage'?

Yes, I'm not crazy about the "update" either but I don't think it's something we can change. It's a Proboards thing most likely. I do like the set-up on XS650.com but some of the posters just plain drive me nuts, lol. Even when I 1st got my 650 and knew nothing about it, I knew more than many of them. I don't mind a nice custom but many of those guys will never get there, they can't even make a stock bike run, lol. And on top of that, I get scolded for telling them that. They really take offense when told they don't have a clue about what they're doing. They get even madder when you tell them a hardtail will ruin the bike's handling.

I would prefer to discuss XS650 over here. I find it more comfortable to my taste. BTW, our rally was a success. It is sponsored by XS11.com. I'd like to see more of this group next year. Have a look. www.facebook.com/xssoutheastNobody showed up to ride a hardtail.

It was a great rally, Marty. The number of your XS11 folks who rode long distances to the rally on 30-plus year old iron spoke volumes on the level of mechanical ability in the group, and riding ability was equally impressive. Beautiful weather, too--Ann and I made it back to Southern Illinois Monday without catching more than a few very light sprinkles of rain. Thanks again for the invitation!
XS650.com, yes....Typical thread opens something like this: "I just bought an XS650 for my first bike, and I'm gonna build me a bada$$ bobber!" Too much clown, not enough circus.

I agree that there are to many fools out there that pick up any bike and with no experience with a bike just start cutting it up to make it look cool. They have no time in the saddle on any bike let alone an old bike. Trying to help them is not easy. Suggest they get it running and riding before they start cutting is sacrilege to them. Buying a bike with no title then spending $5000 on it then finding out they can't get one is always funny. Same thing with the ones who spend all the budget on pretty then when they try starting it, it won't run let alone start. Then have to spend a few hundred more they don't have to fix the engine. I help as much as I can but it gets frustrating. Leo

"They really take offense when told they don't have a clue about what they're doing. They get even madder when you tell them a hardtail will ruin the bike's handling." - 5twinsYou expect others to listen to you talk to them like that without getting mad? 5twins, that's a part of the reason for a "Dead Forum." Your unwanted opinion of others and their abilities does nothing to help the situation or this forum. On top of that you don't understand why "They get even madder" after you insult their intelligence and hard work. The administrator of a forum is supposed to promote/support the XS650 community... not put its members down. Now that I've told you don't have a clue about what you're doing as an administrator I'm pretty sure you'll be madder'n hell at me. What is it with the internet now a days that people are not civil to each other ? XSleo who also frequents XS650.com went out of his way to rip my head off . On that forum I had a question about solo seat springs and here is his reply to me. "I know you did the hard tail for the look, so deal with the poor ride." - Leo Then right here in the "Dead Forum" thread XSleo called forum members "fools," "and with no experience." What kind of an administrator/senior tech advisor is that? You have forgotten that people, often young people, come here for help, advice and guidance because they don't have experience. Then you insult them and call them fools with no experience. I used to like being around old timers, but you two put other people down to pump your own ego and you're good at it. I think you two curmudgeons need to remember your manners. Your mothers must be ashamed LOL. As administrators and senior tech advisors of a major forum like XS-650 Garage if you don't want to be positive and/or help someone out because they hard-tailed a bike then keep the negative vibes to yourself. You should just answer technical questions with courtesy and without the big put-down or hoopla. You fellas need to remember younger folks can hardtail a bike without hurting their aching backs or swollen prostate. BTW - I'm not a new member. What it is, Charlie, is that some of us were riding and turning wrenches before these bikes were new, have paid some dues, and don't have it in us to encourage turning motorcycles into fashion accessories for guys who don't have a sense of self and think they can buy one with a hardtail kit. Since you know so much I guess you're aware that the downside to hardtailing a motorcycle doesn't end with sacrificing comfort; the suspension is there to keep the rubber hooked up to the road, and if a situation arises that calls for hard cornering to avoid trouble, that bobber's likely to cause the rider a lot more grief than a backache.
Hey, each to his own, your bike, your call; just don't expect encouragement here. The bottom line is we aren't going to pimp this board to the lowest common denominator, and if you're not man enough to take what's dished out by people who know their stuff and have made major contributions to the knowledge base without having a hissy fit, then you're not what you're pretending to be. The thing is, you've been a member since 2005; but all you've posted up to now was your tale of woe and some vanity shots, never one effort to help anybody else. Bottom line? You haven't paid the dues and you don't have the creds to be jumping on guys who've worked hard helping others.

well this is my first post on here and I don't wish to cause offense but I tend to agree with Charlie . Good manners cost nothing . I've been on the receiving end myself over on xs650.com and I've got 50 years wrenching experience...( more than most probably) just very little on the XS650. Its surely not about earning the right to courtesy patience and good manners anyway.
However saying that...I have many times been guilty myself of lack of patience and jumping on folk for being stupid or not trying to help themselves a little. its very frustrating when you're trying to help but I'd be the first to admit i'm not proud of my lapses , I'm ashamed of them. I just put it down to getting old and grumpy.
Anyway I'll find somewhere to introduce myself shortly and look forward to hopefully contributing something worthwhile to this community.

Good to see you here, peanut--welcome.
With all due respect, gents, I'm real tired of the types who come on with the OCC/Jesse James bad boy posturing and get all upset when the facts of life get pointed out to them. Anybody who's so thin-skinned that he starts pitching fits like an adolescent girl when a little criticism comes his way might consider another hobby--maybe crocheting, or collecting vintage handbags, or flower arrangement.
If anyone thinks 5twins, Leo and I are a little rough, try posting a dumbass question that's been answered 50 times on SV Rider or some of the other more tech-savvy boards out there and see what happens.

WOW, I missed this thread. I have to say I agree with being polite but I also agree with grizld about doing some research before asking questions. I have learned a lot here over the last 6 years about these 650's. This is a great forum , even with the changes, and the people here seem like good knowledgeable people. I also like the ADV forum. A lot of ride reports and a good XS650 thread.
