hi just finishing off a motor build ( 750/rephrased/ 2-1 inlet with single lectron carb/ shell 1 cam/worked head) also a set of high ratio gears...was wondering what sprocket gear ratios people where using on the road (not track) with the high ratios, and also where to get the sprockets as the xs 650 don't go bigger enough teeth wise (34 max?) understand need to go 36/38/40 rear (no idea front) to find tune gearing and really cant afford to get sets made up

I have a set of high ratio primary gears in my 650 Special and use 17>34 sprockets. Is good for highway touring. For around town 17>36 is ideal,or 16>34

For around town 17>36 is ideal,or 16>34 thanks for your input...im surprised.. ivan who sells them in oz says hes running 17/34 on his bike as well...would have thought would be a bit doughy on acceleration.well looks like experimenting time...have 17/34 on the old motor so will start from there and look for a 36 as well...lucky iv got a set of new chains and sprockets so swaping over the back wont be a problem opps just noticed your name iv/not short for ivan???

I also have High Ratio primary gears fitted to my xs-1 Flat tracker that has 17>42 gearing for my local dirt track. My P4 XS650 road racer I have a few sprockets that I can use 16,17,18 > 34,35,36, All of my bikes are 750cc and have other modifications. Final drive gearing may also depend on what state of tune & weight of your bike. I do a lot of testing on all the parts I make. Regards; Ivan
