My sidecar passenger claims my rightside muffler is kinda loud. OK, long before I attached the sidecar I did the pointy steel bar tuneup to the bike's stock exhaust. The noise don't bother me none but the rightside muffler ain't so close to my ear, neither. What I'd like to find is a mirror image of a MAC 2 into 1 exhaust system. Anyone out there making anything like that? Fred Hill, S'toon.

Hi Fred, good to see you here!
I've never seen or heard of a left side 2-1, and I doubt that you'll find one off the rack; you'd need to have it tailored. If you don't mind welds that are a bit crude, Jemco can produce anything you want; you'd need to give them some specs to work with. Google for their URL. A less costly and (maybe)less hassle-prone solution might be to give your passenger a pair of ear plugs.

While your earplug solution would be easy and work well, offering my wife a set of earplugs would not be seen as a nurturing thing to do. OTOH a set of leftie pipes "I got them just for you, my love" would get me serious brownie points. OK then. Custom pipes ain't cheap. What I do have in my shed is a pair of stock dual pipe headers that have been sawn off short. Saw off the rightie even shorter, get the correct muffler shop adapters and make an S-shaped crosspipe where the stock crosspiece used to be to move the rightie to the left side of the frame and there we go. I wonder if a 2 into 1 adapter to a single muffler or 2 pipes into stacked mufflers would be best? A next winter project, anyway. Fred Hill, S'toon.

Actually Jemco's prices are pretty reasonable, and if you're thinking about 1.5" stacked duals rather than 2-1 into a collector, they might surprise you. Memory may be playing tricks, but I think they already make left side high pipes.

Good catch, Marty--had no idea that Gordon made those. I've read comments from buyers at xs650.com , and they sound like happy campers. You wouldn't want to try even semi-lively cornering with that 2-1, but it should work fine with a sidehack; the collector dimensions look reasonable, too.
