Hey pete, so I started my bike the other day, it ran I just need to mess with the carbs. But my question is I ran the positive wire coming from your the radioshack rectifiers and the positive wire from the napa regulator both to my key switch. Now I hooked them up so when I turn my key on then they should have juice. I turned the key off, the bike sat over night, I go to check it the next morning and the battery is stone dead, it is a brand new fully charged AGM sealed battery from Mikesxs. How I have it wired is the positive from the battery goes to my fuse block which holds 4 fuses 20 amp main and 10 amp for the rest. My headlight switch is going to a 10 amp fuse which would have juice always going to it. would the headlight switch be causing the drain from the battery? It's a simple hi/off/lo switch. I'm lost with this. any advice? Thanks

bigpup,
The positive from the battery should go to the 20 Amp fuse in the fuse block and then to the ignition switch. From the ignition switch back to the 10 Amp fuses to power the rest.
Well, the red wire from the rectifiers should go directly to the battery through the main 20 Amp fuse. The positive wire from the regulator should go to one of the fuses.

I bought my voltage regulator about a month ago. I tried several parts stores, all of the usual suspects, but no one had it in stock. NAPA was cheapest at just under $30, but they wanted a 15% (or was it 20%) restocking fee, so I passed. The next cheapest was Advance, so I ordered the R292 for $30.59. It came the next day, and it was a GP Sorensen, but it had the pink wire. I asked Advance to order another one from a different warehouse. They ordered one from Mississippi, I think (I'm in central Texas). It took three days, but it had the orange wire. It was a Borg-Warner.

I picked up C622 voltage regulator and tested it on the bike, and NOW SHES CHARGING!!! 14.4V at 2500RPM Here is a picture of the VR img293.imageshack.us/img293/7232/img3990b.jpgwith part numbers Thanks PETE for all your help! one more XS650 charging on the road !! By the way, I looked up VR727 at Rock Auto and they have one part # 1V1033 made by AIRTEX / WELLS for $25.79. It has the same wiring color and voltage range from 13.8 - 14.8 volts. I bought one and am now making a plate to mount it on out of stainless. I'll let you know how it turns out.
