I have a 1972 xs650. The tank colors are red and white (white stripes / pinstripes, red inset). Too complicated for me to do. I want to have it repainted, but I want to be sure it is done to original specs.
Are paint templates used to get the original design? If so, where can I find them? If not, how else can I be sure that the paint scheme / design matches the original?

Take some detailed pictures of the existing paint job and give them to your painter. He shouldn't have any problems duplicating the paint scheme if he is a qualified painter and is able to pinstripe. Paint color codes are available for most models.

I painted a XS2 tank for a friend a few years ago and layed out the white stripes by hand from photos and measurement taken before I started. Greg

There is a guy on ebay that sells exact replica decals. You can use them or simply use them as a sample and resell them. type in vintage decals and be sure to check his ebay store
