Hey guys Ive polished engine covers on old Brits years ago with mothers and worked fine but on my XS it seams like I can't get that shine like I've seen on others anyone got some tips on bringing back some rough covers?

I've been working on mine recently. I got some real nice gunmetal luster using steel wool and then smoothing it out with some Never-Dull. Might not be the best way to get a totally polished look, but makes it look like butter. www.bikepics.com/pictures/288520/The "Yamaha" alternator cover I tried using a rotory paint remover that my friend was using to get the rust off his project truck frame. I wanted a brushed aluminum look, and it kinda looked cool, but I started really digging the softer look, so I might replace that part. Take the covers off though to get at them from all sides.

First thing about polishing is that if u got scratches when u start u will have them when u finish. To get that shine u have to sand with sandpaper, final wet sand with fine grit like 600 or so. fEETS

I work my way up the list of sand paper ending with a 1000 grit. Then finishing with Mothers or another good finishing polish. I would find someone who has a polishing wheel. Otherwise the big secret is good old elbow lube.
