Is there a good way to paint chrome?
The chrome on my bike, fenders, gauges, turn signals is not so great. It has what I refer to as "spider webs" or "veins". It's not rusty, but not really shiny, and I would like to paint them a low gloss or satin black.
Is there something that I could use to ecth the chrome....or do I need to sand and remove the chrome completely.
Thanks, Rick

You could sand the chrome with sandpaper, you don't have to remove it, just scuff it so the paint can adhere...A scouring pad works too, or you can sand blast them...there are 100's of ways to do it right...Doesn't hurt to use an ethching primer before paint too...

blast away! make the metal fresh. If any rust has started to form under any of the chrome that is not yet visible, after you get it blasted you can sand away and make it real clean, which will lengthen the life and work real nice for primer and paint.
If you don't have a sandblaster, any autobody shop will, or else they could point you towards an industrial stripping place.
