My 80 chrome front fender has a little rust and pitting from sitting in a garage for 18 years. I'm more mechanic than painter so to paint it do I have to remove all the chrome before priming? or can I just sand it to get it smooth then prime, paint? Looking at the prices of custom fenders I'm thinking I'll just keep the stock one and paint it.

What I've done in the past, was to completely sand blast all the chrome off at a light pressure or just lighty sand blast the chrome at low pressure just to provide a semi rough finish ,so the primer as a surface to adhere to.............Jack
