Hi Folks, had a few health problems last couple of months, high BP and triglicerides (cholersterol? off the scale) Things are getting under control so I should be a bit more active again. Damn, getting older sucks, still beats the hell out of the alternative though ;D PJ

Welcome back PJ and I'm happy to hear that your health is returning. A lot of us in this garage have a bunch of miles on our odometers. Every day you can kick start your xs is a blessing.

Thanks people, I'm even thinking of riding bike to work for first time in 6 months ( if you 've seen I-4 through Orlando you know what I mean) Spyug, I managed to find somewhere here that does leek and potato soup, all I need to do now is remember where ;D. You'r right about the junk food though. Still havnt seen Supersize Me documentary, friend came over for Bike Week tells me it was on British tv couple of weeks ago, seems to be an anti McDonalds film?. Dont know if you remember Two Wheel Services in Bridgend, I worked there on and off for several years (and Leslie Griffiths Motors on Ewenny Road) Dont know if you had any interest in bikes when you were 12. Typical welsh, and we dont even get paid by the word (well I do now, lecturing ;D ;D) PJ

PJ, You have got to see that film. It will put you off Macs for years to come. I used to bolt down burgers and fries a couple of times a week then after seeing that I went cold turkey. I've dropped about 20 lbs and feel fit as a fiddle . if I have a burger now it is either a Veggie or Turkey and salad instead o fries. Getting old is no fun.
Working on the bikes is great therapy and while I don't do much other exercise I find I'm out in the garage for several hours everynight and most weekends and doing a lot of bending, stretching, lifting and pushing bikes around. I'm more limber now than when I was scrum-half in high school and that was 34 years ago. Maybe I should create a new exercise video. I can just see it now "Bikersize with Spyug". Why use gym equipment when the pistons on a 650 will work as dumbells ( well for small people anyway).
As a kid going to Penybont Primary, I didn't have a great deal of interest in bikes mostly because my dad early on scared the beejesus out of me on his 250 Beezer. I can clearly remember flying over the hill on Waunscil Ave ( where we lived) and nearly pranging a bus. I think I was about 8 at the time. He had been a dirt track rider and mechanic ( had worked for Stirling Moss when he rode bikes)so I'm sure he would have been familiar with the shops you speak of. He never wanted me to have a bike( especially when I became a teenager) so he always steered me away. Getting into bikes at 50 was my act of rebellion ( after he had been dead nigh on 20 years) ;D. Its funny how things turn out. My dad was also an avid sailor and built and sailed dinghys ( Kenfig Pool). I hated the water and wouldn't get on a boat ( can't swim) until I turned 30 and took up keel boat racing. I think as I grow older I am trying to emulate him by doing the things he did. The only thing he did that I haven't (yet) is jump out of a plane. I hate flying too but oddly enough I have been mulling over jumping. One of my employees is a former army officer ( tanker) and he just turned 50 this week and he's going to jump this year to celebrate. He's gradually talking me into it. The things we do as we get older. I guess the fear factor starts to drop off as we near death........not!!!!!!!
Good yakking with you. We should have a Welsh day on the chat line.
Cheers, Spyug

Hi Spyug, my wife must have been reading over my shoulder, she made leek and potato soup today ;D I did some work on one of the motors I've been fixing forever. This isnt the rephased one but it does have Honda CR500 rods and Yamaha XV750 pistons and intake valves. I messed up with the starter reduction gear so had to strip bottom end (again) its in modded motors section. May even get the monoshock 860 up and running this year Just figured out how to post pics so I'm like a kid with a new toy, look at what I did ;D The cluch cover is going on the 800 for now. the brakes are on the only 650 I have running, heavy on tyres and brake pads ( maybe I should go slower? Nahh aint ridden it in 8 months All for now, PJ
