What exactly does the light checker do? I think it is a straight 3 pin plug but I can't seem to find what plugs into it. Do I need this or is it just for diagnostics or something?
It's on my 77' xs650

The light checker measures the resistance of the bulb filaments. When a filament breaks the checker senses it causes the resrve lighting device to kick in and switch current flow to the remaining filament. Yuo do need it if you want the reserve lighting system to work but if you bypass the RLU then the checker is not needed.
