Does anyone have a photo or good explanation of how the horizontal headlight adjuster screw arrangement is supposed to be set up? My XS-2 has a long threaded rod with a bunch 'o nuts and nylon fittings on it, but the correct setup isn't obvious to me. Help!

The exploded diagrams indicate that there is a an arm with a threaded nut on the end that engages this threaded rod. Screwing the rod in or out adjusts the lateral position of the stock light. Unfortunately I'll have to cobble something up like this for the Mike's XS halogen reflector/bulb combo I am now using. Not impossible, but more fab work. How have others who made the change Mike's setup done this??

Twilkin, I scrapped the whole side-to-side adjuster completely and never had a problem. I don't do a lot of night riding, but have been out past dark more than once and never seemed to have a problem. I know the contraption you're referring to, but it was months before I realized I'd left it out, and since everything is OK, I'm not going to be putting it back anytime soon.
YMMV, Pol

Polamnus, the only reason I'd want to be able to adjust is if it was "needed" at an annual inspection. If it's easy to cobble up, I may try. Sounds like a job for a pop rivet tool! Thanks!

I know it varies state-to-state, but that's decided not a worry here in NY State. I got mine inspected with a non-running engine. The bike never left the bed of a friend's pickup truck, never even loosened the tie downs.
1) Headlight on(high beam not tested) 2) Brake light on 3) Activate turn signal left & right 3) Sound horn 4) Are the tires properly inflated? (verbal answer accepted) 5) Pay the man at the counter $6 and he'll give you a sticker
THAT'S IT!
I was worried since my turn signals are very likely too small to be legal, but all the mechanic said was "cool signals man, where'd you find 'em?"
Sorry for getting off topic, but I'd be amazed if that adjuster was a deal breaker for inspection. I've heard of guys duct taping a child's toy horn to the frame for the purpose of inspection.
Best, Pol
