I installed the new $3.00 flasher and new mini signal lights on my 81XS. When I turn on a signal light it flashes bright, but now the light on the opposite side also flashes at the same time but real dim. could this be current bleeding from somewhere or what? Al

Nightmare, That is quite original. Either they go or don't go. From the description, I think your diagnosis of a power "bleed" would seem a logical conclusion but I've never heard of such a thing.
A question or two: The mini lights are they 2 or 3 wire ( i.e. 1 or 2 filaments)? You say the light on the opposite side flashes dimly. Would that be both lights front and back ( i.e all 4). Does it only happen at the front or only at the back? How are the lights wired left side, right side ( which coloured wires). have you checked the switch mechanism? Is it clean and no evidence of a connection between one side and the other?
This is an intriguing problem and it will be interesting to figure it out.....but we will.
Cheers, spyug

When the front signal light flashes on the right side lets say the front signal light on the left side flashes only very dim. Same situation on the rear. The lights are two wire and are wired the same as the srock lights. I havn't checked the switch but I will today. Thanks a lot. Al

That usually means a bad ground. I've never put enough thought into it to figure out WHY that happens, but improving the ground connections always clears it up.

Thanks a lot for the information. I will clean up the grounds next time I work on it. Al
