Have run into a bit of a problem with the flashers on the tracker project. I changed out the stock 'lollipops" for some mini stalks and wired them in not thinking the bulbs would be any different from the stock units. When the lights were activated, they glow steady but don't flash. Ii pull the bulbs to see they are rated at 12 volts 23 watts which now seems to be the standard for bike bulbs. Going to the manual and reviewing my Ken Maxwell CD I find the 650 system must have bulbs rated 12 v/27 watts to work with the stock flasher. This morning I scoot over to the local auto store for replacements only to find they have hundreds of bulbs of the right size but no indication of the wattages. Quiz the clerks but no one has a clue. Around the corner is our local Mamma Yammie so in I go expecting to pay triple but at least getting the bulbs. That was not to be....all they have are 23 watt units and 27 watt units are no longer available. Say what? What do I do now short of putting the ugly lollis back on my svelte little tracker? Change out the flasher they say ($80 or so)...but we really don't know if it will work and oh by the way "no refund on electrical components" he says pointing to the sign. Nuts says I. My question what have others done in this situation? Are small size 27 watt bulbs available if so from where? Or do you switch out to a more modern flasher unit. What kind and from where? As always I appreciate any assistance available. Cheers, Spyug

I switched mine to a two prong electric car type flasher and am running small signal lights and they work great. Cost around $3.00 at True Value Hardware. al

After a frustrating day of talking to "experts" locally and getting nowhere and spending a couple more hours after supper horsing around with the lights I decided to try Nightmare's solution. Long story short, slap in a two prong 552 module and I got 23 watt blinkers all the way around. Don't have the self cancellation module feature but don't need it for the MOT cert and my thumb works well enough. Yeah....one more step closer to being done. Thank you NM I appreciate the quick response and thanks to the guys in the previous post on the same subject which I ran across today ( moral of the story, read the threads first). cheers, Spyug. PS I'm not sure if I got hosed on the part tho as it cost me $4.00 I forgot to mention that the flasher will only go in one way that is to the left of the socket when viewed face on. The yellow/ green lead which goes to the self cancelling relay is left open. Another interesting thing about this flasher is that it seems to work with any wattage of bulb. The minis I have on the back are dual filament 23Watt/8watt. I ran them wired together at 31w and singally at 8w 23w at all ratings they flash. I put the old 27w lollis on with the old flasher and they worked ok and they worked with this flasher too. Interesting. I'm quite impressed with this flasher as now I know I can drop in any old bulb ( that fits) and I'll get a flash. Good for emergencies.

OK guys , I've read ALL of the turn signal threads, I changed out my signals for some nice small alloy units, bought a 552 two prong flasher, plugged it in,..... and nothing happens, however the old three prong does cause the lights to go on when switched, but no blink. I've got a 1976 C model that I'm working on.
ANY HELP?
Thanks.

You have to pull the wires out of the three prong receptacle and swap two of them before it will work. If you don't you are just getting the self-canceller and either the positive or the negative (can't remember which). Use a voltmeter to find the hot wire (it's hot whenever the ignition is active because it comes before the switch), then you can play with the flasher and some alligator clips or whatever and see if you can get the lights to go.
