I'd like to ditch the stock headlight for a bottom mount unit on a handmade mount. I was thinking along the lines of a 5 3/4" light. But...what do I do with the wad of wires from inside the headlight bucket? I don't want to get the thing looking nice, then have a rat nest of wires between the headlight and fork neck. Any opinions and advice is welcome!

I've been thinking about doing something along those lines as well. I'd thought about mounting a junction box somewhat inconspicuously behind the headlight between the forks after removing all unnecessary plugs from the harness (I've been stripping excess electricals). A good craftsmen could also build the splice box, headlight mount, and even signal mounts all into one trick unit. Another option would be to completely rewire the bike, moving all connections under the seat. Make sure to post pics of whatever you come up with and good luck!

I just did a quick and dirty method. used a 4~5oz chain saw oil bottle. split it down one edge and taped it back together when all the wires/connectors were inside. made a small bracket off fork I may get round to making things a bit neater one day (but its been like this for 4 yrs ;D ;D) Oh, make a drain hole in the bottom PJ

When I was messing with my headlight, it seemed like a lot of the wires & connectors were for the express purpose of going through the headlight. Get a wiring diagram & a lot of time and clean it all up

I changed my stock sealed beam headlight and went with the halogin conversion kit from Mike's XS then bought a "blue" bulb for it. I had problems (like Mike said I would) getting the wiring back inside. (but I was able to acomplish this feat)
My father-in-law had a scrap yamaha givin to him and it had a deeper housing. I replaced the original stock housing with this old Yamaha, (think it's a 82 800 something, not sure, too many identifiers missing) All the wiring fits much better, but now I need to figure out how to make the mount work so that I'm not shining the coons.
