I got the connecting rods from K&L supply company but I havnt been able to find a new (2005) catalogue and the online section that I can find for K&L doesnt list parts. Not sure of price but I think it was about $90.00 each the first pistons I got were from a high milage XV750 so I used them for cutting up. I had to buy a piston and had one good used one. bought 2 sets of rings and new circlips, forget total but I have the bill somewhere safe. PJ

I dont remember the exact weight difference, there are a number of piston pins with different internal taper ends. the originals were parallel, I dont remember if I used Yamaha pins with the XV pistons. the crank pins have a 10mm hole through and are about 63mm long, its probably a couple of ounces for each pin. I'll try and find the numbers and let you know. ( I have it all written down somewhere) PJ

Hey Eric, A comment on the first post, "Who has any info about using CR500 rods and XT350(i think) pistons...Damn, think about that set up rephased...That would probably smoke my sportster, and my sporty eats HD Big Twins for breakfast " As the owner of an '87 XL1100 Sporty, if you aren't eating Big Twins for Breakfast something's really wrong. Hey Sportydriver I was just in Alpharetta yesterday...I've never raced a BT while riding my XS, but have on my Sporty...It is a 1962 XLCH in a Paughco rigid frame...SU carb, ported and polished heads, PB cams, etc, etc, it is a very fast bike, the fact that it is about 150lbs lighter than stock helps alot too...I have always been very impressed by how fast and powerful the stock XS is and how much more powerful they can be made...

Correct, XT350 is four valve. XS650 is two valve. your point? PJ

The valve pockets won't be correct. You could always have new ones machined in but when you start doing work like that to an existing piston you get closer toward the cost of having a custom piston made. Dave R.

I have a 650 stock engine that has 533 rods and i would like to replace them but yamaha no longer makes those rods. Any one knows if the cr 500 rods crank pin is the same diameter as the 533 rods? I thik that the 533 rods have a bigger crank pin! Does any one knows if there are alternative rods for a 533 crank?

Flash, Not only are the 533 rods different from 256s (now also NLA) and 447s, but so is the crank itself. They flywheels are 1mm thinner where the pin goes through, and the hole has a larger diameter. You can always try to find something that fits (the whole point of this thread) or buy a 447 crank and follow the recommedations here. The 533 big-ends are lubed by oil that's come through the main bearings and is picked up by the scoop on the crankpins, runs through the pins and comes out through that small hole on the outer surface of the pin. The 447 big-ends are lubed by oil which is sprayed from tiny orifices in the mail oil-gallery that runs across the front of the crankcase. It's sprayed directly onto the rods and goes through the slots. If your motor is a 533, make sure the crankcase has the oil holes to spray the rods as 533s might not have them. If not, you can try to drill them yourself but you'd have to be very accurate or the oil will not hit the slots in the rods. You would have to see the inside of a 447 case before you attemped it. If you don't want to do that, you might have to buy a complete 447 motor (or at least the bottom end). It's a pity that Yamaha stopped making 533 parts as they were by far the best version of the 650. Dave R.

David I have confirmed that the my 533 Rods crankcase engine as the lubrication holes for the big end rod bearings, I Would like to know if some one knows some rods that would fit on a 533 crankshaft.
