Hello All,
I just thought I'd drop in and say "good on ya" and I hope it works out.
I was really quite pi**ed off when I began reading some of the comments on the other board.
I dont think I really pushed the donation thing too far - I was only trying to cover my cost and provide what I thought to be a stable solution for the lot of you.
Some of the comments in regard to downtime and other related things were just not true. Since moving to my own server it has not been down once. I can honestly say that I'm offended at the comments of some users.
You all knew that I didnt use the board and I couldnt understand why you need a 'leader' its just a place to discuss your bikes.
Whenever someone emailed me for help I would respond - resetting passwords and the like.
I've emailed all the members and depending on the response I may remove it permanently.
I hope this solution works out for you.
Thank you to those that supported the board - I hope you found the information you required.
Regards. Aaron

Aaron. Thanks for droping in to say hi. Glad to hear you were pissed off. Its the reason that we are all here. We got pissed off. I'm not gonna start a Flaming Party but I will point out the fact that it took you this long to even respond and people had tryed to contact you long before we left just goes to show your lack of intrest. No hard feelings. Thank You! For bringing a great bunch of people together. If you ever get yourself another XS650 or are just looking for info for friends please feel free to drop by.

Yes, let's give credit where it's due. Aaron created the best English version of a bullitin board out there. When he sold his 650, he made it clear that he would not be an active leader but would maintain the board based on our requests and money contributed. I do think this group needs active leaders and it was frustrating not hearing anything from the board owner and wondering if it would crash. Hat's off to Bob and John for the new site. We will probably need more money down the road to get things like FAQ's and picture gallery so in a way we are heading into the same fork in the road. I had just sent in $20 to Aaron just before the new board but will be willing to chip in every year to this one, too.

Thanks Jackson,
Speaking for Bob and myself, we do appreciate the kind words..
As for the other things mentioned in your post, Yes it is possible that we a group will need to chip in and pay some hosting fees.. At present time though, we are using a free host..Various companies pay Pro-Boards [our host] for the privilige of posting their advertising banners at the top of the pages and as some of you have noticed, the banners for the items they are wanting to sell, are most often related to the subject matter that is being discussed within the different catagories of the board..That's cool with me, I don't find the banners to be a distraction..
The new site I'm working on when I have find free time, will be a non-profit site...So while we may well headed down a road that will require that members will need chip in and help me pay the hosting fee's SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE, when they become too much for me to personally pay, it's NOT the same road that we were on with the old site..
Let's not confuse the issue..
Where Aaron [thebikeguy] was a web developer with the intentions of making a profit...
We, as in Bob_Dammit and myself are just working class guys who both own some XS650s and like hanging out with folks who are like minded...We wanted to provide a stable and responsive discussion board to the many people we've been hanging and discussing XS650s with for a good long while. I consider many of the guys on this board to be friends of mine and I know Bob does as well..
I may, in the future offer up for sale, some T-shirts and window stickers, screen printed with the XS-650 Garage USA logo, with the hopes that if there is a little profit to be made while keeping the costs down so anyone who wants a shirt or sticker could have them, that profit could be applied to hosting fee's as well...To me, that serves a triple benefit..
[1] The member gets a shirt and or window sticker. [2] Our discussion group gets more exposure at various rides and events when the members wear them. [3] If there is a profit, it gets applied to the hosting fees..
Right now, this board is doing fine, growing by the week, everyone seems to be pretty happy with the response they get to requests and questions they might have..
Gotta go help my local XS bud with his bobber...The frame is back from the powder coater!
Regards
John

Hmmm... stickers and t-shirts? Sounds like a great idea to me, plus it helps defray the cost of hosting the board.

Tackett,
You'd do well if you searched back through all the posts that pertain how Bob and I will be handling the board and websites business when it comes online.
Cheers

I, for one, am glad that Aaron started his board...If he hadn't none of us would have met and had a good place to discuss the XS650...i sent him some money and I got my moneys worth out of his board...i learned tons of stuff, and had help with alot of problems...However, this board has a different feel to it...it is more "hardcore"...I don't see much of the "where can i find gold tank badges" crowd here...most here are hardcore customizers, and riders...This i like

Eric, i agree with you, the old garage site brought us all together and elevated us to this new site. I donated last fall, and i feel i got every penny's worth. There was a point where i felt differently, but things change, it's time to move on and look ahead. BTW, i'm part of the "where can i find the gold tank badges crowd" and proud of it. .............................Denny

eric123 I am sure that this site will grow to the point were we have members from novice to expert. Right now it seems hardcore because we have the best and most informed members from the old site (a good thing). We are all the people that wanted more from our site than Aaron (thebikeguy) was offering. When we got no response from him, the boys (god luv em) went and took the bull by the hornys and started this site. I thank the whole list of sites and clubs: Thebikeguy or 650 Society, Bob's 650motorcycles >>>>> or even Google for bringing me to this site. Close your eyes and picture yourself drifting down a long and winding road leading off into a blazing red and orange sunset. Looking back over your shoulder you notice a ball of dust way back in the distance. THATS THEBIKEGUY, RIGHT WERE WE LEFT HIM. (cant keep up with the pack without a xs650)

I love pristine bone stockers, slightly modded/customized, fully chopped, old school bobbers, street trackers and rat bike XS650s equally..I'm pretty sure that many here share that love for these machines, or they would not come around.
This temp board and the new site [under construction as I find the time] were created for anyone who has an XS650 or even just an interest in these particular machines, and will not cater to any one style of machine to the exclusion of others..
I don't want anyone to get the idea that they are not welcome here, or one style is favored over the other..
I agree we are all hardcore XS-650 fans.. We have a diverse crowd of over 170 members already..We have guys who have lived, ate and breathed XS-650's for years, and we have guys who have never adjusted a valve...It's the love of XS-650s that brought us all to this point of this adventure.
Some guys will come and go, others will stick it out through thick and thin, but as long as everybody gets along, everyone is welcome..
John
