Fitztracker Fires Up
After some setbacks on this project finally got to fire it up. hooked up my shop battery and it started on the third kick, thanks to Pete's static timing advice.
The not so good news. With my Powerdynmo alternator installed and no battery, just a capacitor, I am unable to kickstart the motor. So I am checking into that.
Sign me up for another one Pete for my 77d. I will PM you

I just PM'd you with the price. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I thought I had responded to all of the many PM's and Emails that I have received for this product, but obviously I missed yours.

Just a tip .... if you get the spark plug wires Pete posted on page 3 of this thread .... I got them from Amazon(DOT)com ... I would suggest you also get this tool: 'Accel 170042 Spark Plug Wire Terminal Crimping Jaw' .... its $5.30. www.amazon.com/Accel-170042-Spark-Terminal-Crimping/dp/B000BW8LT4The wires come with the distributor terminals and boots in a bag. You just can't crimp them on right with crude pliers and normal wire crimp tools. With that tool ... you just squeeze it in a vice. Unfortunately, I learned this too late.

Well, that's a good tip. Did you get the set of 8 wires? Two to practice crimping, two for the system and two spares for $13! How did they fit in Mikes coil?

I'm looking for someone with a tool to crimp them proper ... they have to be crimped perfect round to fit in the coil. I tried one ... but no luck. Seems to be a pretty elusive tool here. I'll wait it out. Thanks to your help, the coil will fit right in like your pic. I had to relocate the flasher relay ... and the flasher canceling unit, no problem. Sticking with points and stock coils till I find someone with the crimp tool. Not gonna buy a hand held one for $50

I don't think that you need to crimp anything to the wires for Mikes coil. You don't even have to strip off the insulation. There is a sharp threaded "needle" in side the coil terminal. You just twist the wire in the hole and the "needle" will screw into the center of the wire.
Just be sure to put the rubber furrel and threaded cap on the wire first.

The centrifugal advance unit is a mechanical means of changing the advance timing for a breaker point system. On the right side of the engine, there is a mechanism that has 2 weights held back by springs. This is connected to the camshaft of the engine. These weights spread out as the engine RPM increases. A Rod that goes through the camshaft (but can move independent of it) is connected to these weights, and turns a little bit as they move. On the other side, the rod connects to the aluminum disc that pete supplies you. I believe a magnet in this disc triggers the hall sensor to hit the spark. I'd take pics of the advance system for you, but I don't have my bike in the driveway right now And yes, it really is that simple! However installation of this system will require you to buy an advance system and rod (you can get it from mikesxs.net) that will fit in your existing camshaft. You'll have to check with pete if his system is compatible with your coils or if you have to get another set.
