Use the spade type connectors that are used in auto stereo systems....they are narrower.

hey mrriggs, I have been fiddlin with this for a couple of afternoons and I just came up with this crazy idea. I bought one of those clear dist. caps and rotor off a vw bug and am in the process of intalling it. I have already installed the rotor and the shaft onto the hub, I just have to make a mounting plate for the dist. cap. by the way, I went to put the pick up coil on the backing plate and found that you can bolt it directly to the points plate, you do have to make one extra hole though, no biggy. I think my dist. set up will look trick on my bike with one chromed single coil mounted to the back bone. i'll keep you guys updated as I go. This guy is selling these plans on ebay, They are using a clear VW cap as well, that's lame, selling mrriggs hard work. He is the guy who came up with the distributor cap thing. As long as he isn't using any pictures or text from this board then whatever, more power to him. I think most people have figured out that when you see plans for something on ebay, you can usually Google it and come up with the info for free. If anything this will just increase trafic to the board.

i got the module and coils off of a corsica (3 coils) . I cut the connectors off the module and stripped a big section with a torch and soldered leads straight to it. I also just ordered the 200 watt stator from ricky stator. As soon as it gets here I'm gonna hook it all up and rewire the bike. expect a review shortly!

What are you doing with the stator that you already got?

Does this ignition need the HEI module. I have a dual fire coil from 650central, Im just wondering if I need this thing to get my coil to fire.

In any electronic ignition you need a coil, a module to fire the coil, and some sort of sensor to trigger the module. You don't have to use an HEI module but you do need a module, the Toyota parts are just the sensor.

This little ignition is great. My HEI module screws Perfectly onto my exsisting spot for my coils. This is a real easy thing to put together, and I feel better knowing I can fix my bike using the autoparts and hardware stores as sources!

Can this setup be used as an ignition for a 270 degree rephased engine? Man, I hope so.

With the right module and a custom reluctor it could be made to work.

Just an add-on to this post that helped me out a bunch. (Thanks mrriggs). The message from mrriggs was as follows: To hook up the pickup I cut off the Toyota connector and soldered [and heatshrinked] a wire to each lead. Ran them to the module, cut to proper length, then crimped and soldered the connectors and slid them onto the module. Orange wire goes to the "G" pin, White wire goes to the "W" pin. The "G" pin is a 3/16" quick disconnect all other on the module are 1/4". Run two wires from the module to the coil as shown in the diagram. Add a possitive wire and hook it to something that gets power when the ignition switch is on. If the module is not grounded through the mounting screws then add a ground wire. That's pretty much it... If you need any more specifics just ask. I'll try to get back to you a little faster next time. The reluctor I pulled from a 80" celica dist. had to be cut down a bunch - but a few hours of time with a file and a good movie, and it appears to be ok. I will plumb everything up this weekend and see if I can get some photos for a followup post. (for those that are interested..) Thanks, Adam
