The 2nd Barber Vintage Fest is coming up on 10/20-22 near Birmingham, Al. Last year was great and this year should be even better since they have added vintage MX & Xcountry races to the weekend. I'm going to be racing an old Husky dirt bike on Saturday, that should be worth a laugh. If you've never been to the Barber motorsports park and have the free time here's a really good reason to go. Greg, good luck and have some fun with the Husky. They were an awesome bike. It's pretty neat to go racing at our ages. Kick some butt!!!

I'll tell ya what. AHRMA races are one of the few times at 48 I'm considered a young guy. When I ride SETRA or FTR I'm a Super Senior class rider. I've got 4 weeks to finish the bike but I should make it since I got the last of the parts today. Greg

Well here's my Barber report. Thursday, rain, I got to the track about 5pm to set up in the swap meet area. Friday I had to work until 2 before going to the track. Mike Davis, my swap meet partner, came in around noon and finished setting up the swap space. The rain had stopped but the mud was getting bad. Saturday was my race so we got to the track at 7:30 so I could get to tech and ride the practice lap. Everything was good and I got ready for my 11:00 race and was heading to the start line when the bike spits and quits. The bike had fouled the plug and I didn't have a spare plug or even a plug wrench. Suddenly Jack Higday rides up on a '72 Yamaha RT1 360 with the factory tool kit. He gave me the plug out of his bike and I get lined up. I got a good start and after 7 laps I ended up in 4th place, not bad for a national race and only the second time I've riden the bike. I got back to the van and gave Jack back his plug so he could ride his bike again. It rained again Saturday night but Sunday was clear skies. The mud in the swap meet area was still bad but the road racing was great. I watched some of the vintage MX races which was a grass track race and also slick mud. I liked what I saw and maybe I'll build an even older dirt bike and race some MX next year. I saw a lot of 650 riders and other old friends at the event and I'll look forward next year at the Barber.
