It was a real hoot...and a great pleasure to meet and ride with you all this year! Wish I could have stayed for the dinner, but duty called. I believe I will definitely make next year mandatory for myself...maybe even have the old '80 up and running by then. As it was, my '81 Special was the youngest of the old girls.....ha! ;-)
The 200 mile round trip from home to the rally on I-90 was....numbing. I obviously made it home in one piece...though my right hand is still tingling from all the vibes these bikes put out. Even with the 18/30 gearing, anything higher than about 70 is numbing all over. So, a 375-400 mile day for me on the XS....not bad at all!

I hate ride'n I-90... even in a car.. the concert is uneven... road noise... and it seems to that section between Rochester and LaCrosse... just drop down thur Chatfield.. catch 16 over to LaCresent...just as fast... neat road.... We discovered a " Horse Pull ".. some serious.. LARGE...horse power...they start out with a 4000 pound sled...and of course this being Wisconsin.. they made the port-A-potty... pretty... Mike, MN

Every year I promise myself I'm gonna make reservations for Wildcat, and every year I procrastinate till accomodations are all booked. Next year for sure....

Next year, if there is a turnout of 650s like this year, we will do XS650 only rides both days with two smaller groups, and two different routes. Double the fun! As far as reservations, if you miss out on getting into the Old Town Inn, the Express at the other end of town had rooms. Hope to see you there! Cafefill

My vote is to continue with a Xs only ride.. it was a good ride... all the bikes were on the same page (speed). Attached photo is a 21st Century version of a wagon train.... Tom Broich 71 Xs (wrong tank) and Sr500... Mike Blackburn 77 XS and 65 650 Triumph, Mark Tomlinson, 70 Xs1 and 73 Tx. Mike, MN

Cat is just a few weeks away. Last time I checked Old Town Inn had a couple left and the Express had a few... Check the web site... they did a pre-route inspection-layout..

I might show up this year, but my '80 XS650 isn't anywhere near rideable yet. It has been a very busy summer for me work wise, and has had me traveling away from home quite a bit. Since I haven't had the time to wrench on a bike, I picked up an '05 Suzuki DL1000 to satisfy my riding thirst. So, if I show up, it will be on that beast. Hopefully, I'll have the '80 at Westby next year.

Cat is just around the corner. I believe all of the rooms at the Old Town Inn, Express Inn are spoken for.. but a call might show a cancellation. The Super 8 at Viroqua (sp?) may be an idea. There are 2 new rides this year. Please visit the Wildcat website for updates.

You can bet I'll be there! I'll be the guy in the "transient parking" area out back. Now- to decide what bike or bikes to bring. Cafefill

Here's an interesting Wildcat fact: this is the 25th year of the rally, and Plattey, our reigning "rookie of the year", isn't even that old. Matter of fact, his 750 kitted '82 XS is older than he is! Cafefill

Another Cat in the bag ! Saturday rides were a wash out.. what with the HORIZONAL RAIN ! . It did clear enough for a quick ride for a late lunch at a local greasy spoon. Sunday morn'n found cloudly skies and a few sprinkles. One rider discovered he needed another six inches of pavement before the dirt side of the road. But he was thinking about a new paint job and a different set of mirrors anyway. (No injuires). The " awards " dinner was entertaining as usual.
